He wants to travel the many states of the US and experience everything leaving all he owns behind. Seeing how much inspiration Alex had, Jim gave him some tips in advance to his adventure to use down the road. Alex packed very little equipment to go on this massive adventure in which Jim insisted on giving him some rations of food and clothing for the harsh weather. His .22 caliber rifle was not fit to kill any large animal for food so that made Jim worry about the adventure ahead and advises Alex to head back to civilization as soon as he runs out of supplies. After Alex said his thanks to Jim and head on to the Stampede Trail to start off his journey.

From the Stampede Trail in Denali National Park, there is an abandoned school bus. This bus was left behind and is usually used by hunters and campers for shelter. Three groups of hunters passed by this abandoned truck in which the two groups did not go inside because of a horrendous stench emitting from the inside. On the bus was a note written by Christopher J. McCandless asking for help and is sick. On the note it also stated that Christopher has gone out to gather berries and will return to the campsite aka the bus. When the third group of hunters went inside the bus they found a rifle, books, clothing, a backpack, and supplies. On the bunks of the bus was the deceased body of Christopher which has been decomposing which gave the bus its fowl smell. The police had a hard time determining the body and transported it to Anchorage for further examinations. After further examinations of the bus, the state troopers found rolls of film and a diary from Christopher. The diary consisted of 113 entries and was written in a guide for edible plants. The caused of death made by the police was due to starvation.

Westerberg gave Christopher a job opportunity to work in South Dakota. The job was to work on Westerberg's grain elevator in return for a place to stay and money. Christopher stayed and worked for Westerberg for a few weeks, but had to leave due to Westerberg being involved with a felony. A recommendation to Westerberg from Christopher was reading a book called "War and Peace". The story told about Christopher's parents and the cause of his adventure. The money Chris had was donated to a charity called OXFAM. And that was the beginning of his long adventure.

Chris hiked on foot for two months around Lake Mead to Lake Tahoe then to the Sierra Nevada Mountains. A couple encountered Chris and gave him a ride meanwhile Chris's parents are searching for his mysterious adventure. By hiring private investigators they found out Chris had donated his money to charity. Chris had the free ride down to the Colorado River from California. He bought a canoe in which he survives the trip on rice and fish he caught from the river. The trip was way easier with the amount of money Westerberg gave Chris in which he wrote in his letter. He crossed to Mexico, but was arrested and they released him back to California. He was suppose to give identifications but did not want to dig up his possessions at where he dug his belongings. Chris continues the journey even though its rough, but is life he always wanted to have.

He becomes dissatisfied with his provides for terms and conditions off on foot to meet his mother figure Jan Burress in the desert hamlet of Slab City, in Palm Springs, which is a winter gathering place for drifters and itinerant travelers. Chris flourishes in this misfit group, enthralled to be around like-minded folks. Everyone recalls him as a nice boy who could keep people engaged for hours by singing and playing the piano. Chris unexpectedly rushes off to avoid the trappings of family life when Jan tries to "mother"  Chris by enquiring about his parents and providing him items to aid his journey.

When he picks up a hitchhiker Alex, the two quickly become friends and spend the next few weeks together. Alex pushes Ron to settle down and achieve something meaningful with his life, while Ron encourages Alex to become a rubber tramp so that he may see the nation and appreciate its intricate beauty. Ron asks Alex if he wants to go to Carthage to earn money for his upcoming Alaska vacation before he leaves if he can adopt him. This frightens Alex, prompting him to flee even quicker. Before leaving for the wild, Alex writes Ron a note saying that he would see him again when he comes south and that Ron should forsake his boring life and live a helter-skelter, nomadic lifestyle on the road. Surprisingly, Ron follows Alex's advice and relocates to the desert in a van. Ron picks up two hitchhikers the day after Christmas in 1992 and tells them about his friend Alex. They notify Ron that, based on an article they read in Outside magazine, they suspect his friend is deceased. Ron is so upset that he becomes inebriated. For the first time in approximately 40 years, he abandons God, wondering why God would allow such a horrible event to happen to such a special person.

Wayne characterizes Alex as a diligent worker, but he also recalls stories about how he lacked common sense since his attention was always on greater things. Alex's plan to "divorce... his parents once and for all and never talk to those fools again" is discussed by the three, but they also emphasize his close relationship with his younger sister Carine. They speak of his high moral standards, his tenacity, and his hidden abilities, which include singing, dancing, and piano playing.  Surprisingly, it appears that Alex died a virgin, not because he didn't like females, but because he valued his connection to nature and his travels over any desire to a woman. Alex, on the other hand, despised the entanglements of close connections. The chapter concludes with postcards addressed to both Westerberg and Jan Burress the day before Alex set off on the Stampede Trail into the wilderness.

Chris has a lot in common with him: he's from the D.C. region, has major difficulties with his father, and is quite intelligent. Before he starts losing his marbles, John is an accomplished climber and alpinist, running for President of the United States on a campaign to cure hunger. John loses his mind and chooses to climb Alaska's most challenging peak in the midst of winter. Although his remains were never discovered, Alaska state troopers think he died after falling through a crevasse. Last but not least, Carl McCunn. Carl, who hails from the lower 48, is the life of the party. He's a nice man who's entertaining and engaging, but he lacks common sense and believes that someone will bail him out if he gets into trouble. Carl is experiencing a long and painful death as a result of a combination of malnutrition and frostbite, so he reveals in his final journal entry that he shot himself in the head to put an end to his suffering.

Unlike Chris, Everett concentrates his travels on the southwest rather than the north, but he, too, adopts the nickname Nemo after the figure Captain Nemo from Jules Verne's classic Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. Ruess vanishes while on a solo excursion in Utah, never to be seen or heard from again. A search party has been dispatched to locate Ruess was never seen again after he went incommunicado, with the exception of his donkey, some cave drawings/graffiti he produced, and some of his stuff. Everett's death remains a mystery since no one ever located him or his remains.

They fax Chris' elder stepbrother, Sam McCandless, who lives there, using the old school phone book, a snapshot of the hiker who died The guy at the center of the catastrophe is Christopher Johnson McCandless. Sam jumps in his car and heads to the Maryland coast to inform Walt and Billie that their lost son has died.

This has a significant influence on Chris and Carine since their parents are workaholics who do not provide a caring, comfortable home atmosphere for their children, essentially ignoring them in order to focus on their careers. Chris and Carine create a deep friendship, shielding each other from their parents' verbal abuse and arguing. Both children have exceptional abilities. In this chapter, a couple of Chris' acquaintances are questioned, and they claim that the family kept their problems hidden since no one knew what was going on within the McCandless home. Chris inherited his parents' work ethic and grew up working odd jobs to supplement his income. Money, on the other hand, was not a sign of capitalism's success for him. It was just the prize he had received as a result of his efforts. Chris seized the first opportunity to get away from his less-than-ideal family situation after graduating from high school in the spring of 1986. He sets out on his first summer excursion right away, isolating himself from his family, including his adored sister Carine.

Chris visited his old hood in California during his post-high school travels, when he discovered Walt & Billie's profound, dark deceit. Walt was managing two families, two residences, and two spouses in California throughout the first few years of Chris' existence. Chris keeps this information to himself rather than addressing his father, and arranges his eventual departure from the man he now despises. To escape his parents, he takes additional summer road trips and establishes his own independence, cutting off nearly all touch with them during his remaining college years. Walt and Billie struggled to understand why he disappeared completely from their life from June 1990 until September 1992, when they learned of his death. Carine was devastated by the loss, grieving for days and losing over ten pounds in the months that followed. Carine and her half-brother Sam travel to Alaska to collect Chris' ashes and belongings as a final gesture of love for him while his parents struggle to come to grips with his death.

For Krakauer, like for Chris, completing the climb becomes the most important thing in his life. Jon's focus is this uncommon climbing success, whereas Chris' interest is the bush. The rise is perilous and perhaps lethal, just as he predicted. During whiteout snowstorms, Krakauer treads carefully, skirting fragile crevasses that may split and send him plunging hundreds of feet to his death. On a gorgeous May day, Krakauer determines that this is the day; he must collect the guts and focus required to climb this mountain; else, he would perish. The ice seems impassable, despite the mild temperatures and sunny day, and Krakauer panics. He can see the top, but he is unable to reach it.

He made a brilliant decision to smoke a joint to help himself feel better because he was depressed. As a result, he sets fire to his tent, vaporizing one of the walls to the point that the temperature inside decreases by 30 degrees. Anyway, this makes him reflect on his motivation for fleeing to climb: his tumultuous relationship with his father! They have a relationship that is quite similar to Walt's, and Chris' father is obstinate, mistreats his son, and drives him away with his medical school demands, despite the fact that he is a doctor himself. Jon is motivated by these tangled familial recollections. To prove his doubtful father wrong, he'll attempt to top the Thumb. He repairs his tent by filling it with snow and devises a strategy for starting his last ascent on the mountain's southeast side, which is significantly easier. He gathers all of his bravery and overcomes all of the scary barriers before daylight. He takes a moment to take in the scenery, shoots a few photos, and then begins his fall. He tells a few others what he did when he eventually makes it off the mountain. They're not very impressed. Years later, when he writes this book, he learns that his arrogance pushed him to his boundaries in order to achieve his objective, but that the impact his death would have had on people he loved would have been disastrous. This is why he feels Chris had no intention of dying in the wilderness, and that he was merely pursuing his immature, foolish fantasy.

This chapter begins on April 15, 1992, when Chris leaves Carthage for the last time. The first few pages describe his voyage leading up to his encounter with Jim Gallien on April 28th, barely 13 days later outside of Fairbanks. He hitchhiked his way through Canada before finding Gaylord Stuckey, an RV driver from Indiana who was transporting an RV to Fairbanks. He spends two days with Stuckey, telling him about his ambitions to live off the earth in the wilderness. Alex holds out his thumb and Gallien picks him up right outside the Institution of Alaska, Fairbanks campus after a few days in Fairbanks doing research at the university and getting some trip supplies. Chris' location are solely known through his diary entries after Gallien drops him off. He followed the Teklanika River along the Stampede Trail until he came to the bus that would take him to his death on May 1st. Chris chooses to pack up and return to civilization on July 3rd after reading a piece from Tolstoy's "Family Happiness" that addresses how true happiness must be shared with others. When he returns to the Teklanika, however, the river has become inaccessible due to the snow melt; the water is too deep and the current is too fast for him to cross. Chris hoofs it back to the bus, depressed, lonely, and alone, to wait for the floodwaters to decrease so he may cross safely.

The four then make their way along the route, witnessing firsthand how tough it was to navigate through the bush to reach the bus. In retracing Chris's steps, the guys discover that he shot a moose, not a caribou, as many Alaskans assumed. When the guys arrive to the bus, they search the inside, discovering several of Chris' belongings, including his pants, a handmade belt he created when he became too slim for those jeans, his nail clippers, and his hiking boots. The men are startled by this because they believe they are trespassing on Chris' last resting place. They spend the night camping outside the bus since no one wants to sleep inside due to the creepy shroud of melancholy created by Chris' death. Around the fire, they discuss Chris' motivation for embarking on this spiritual adventure, as well as the boss moves he made and the massive errors that finally led to his demise. All of the males believe that they recognize themselves in Chris and admire his desire for adventure.

Starvation sets in, and it's an excruciatingly horrible way to die. This is when Chris puts the SOS message on the bus when he's out hunting and gathering. Chris believes that the end is close after a few weeks of tough physical decline, so he shoots one more selfie. Chris died on August 19, 1992, 112 days after starting his adventure and only 19 days before the six individuals met up at the bus in early September.

The parents retrace their son's movements for three hours, stopping at the Sushana River, where he went for water every day, and meandering among the flowers and shrubbery that surround the bus. After gathering their confidence, the two board the bus and discover some of Chris' belongings as well as his scratched words on the wall. They left a commemorative plaque and a bag full of first aid and survival materials behind to assist anyone else seeking refuge aboard the bus. This visit provides closure for Walt and Billie, who respect Chris' accomplishments but are mystified as to why he did so. The novel finishes with a sad image of the parents fleeing from the bus, which is getting smaller and smaller as it approaches.
Analysis:
The dude deserves death for his stupid action. Why in the world would you just go and die in some stranded place alone. Totally thoughtless of the people around him and has no balls to stand up for the troubles in front of him. He was rich and smart, with the money he could've helped the many that are less fortunate and live in poverty. Safe to say it's a good thing that he died and in my opinion, he's dumb for going on "a trip to find himself" naw that not a thing when it turns to you dying.

Using science to find the mysterious chemistry in the potatoes McCandless ate. The idea was that McCandless ate the potatoes because he was hungry and the seeds were poisonous, but that wouldn't be possible since there wasn't a plentiful supply of them. Next hypothesis was that he went to pick potatoes but picked the wrong poisonous potatoes which ended his life, but through his knowledge he would know which is poisonous and which is not. And finally the last thinking was that the season of collecting these potatoes was wrong which caused his death. The time to pick potatoes varies and in a certain period of time the potatoes will create a toxin to protect the stock and believing this is how McCandless died.
Analysis:
This dude is dumb enough to travel alone and leaving everything behind. But dying from clueless potatoes is pretty pathetic. I can't think of anything else he can do to even make the story even dumber. The point of him dying of his own stupidity is so reckless. And for people to admire someone that died because of their mistake really amazes me. I hope no one else follows this dude's steps and dies like this.

My family was mostly military men and I give them much respect for protecting us. For the things they do, I praise their work and pride for the sacrifice. I decided to enlist in the United States Marine Corp because every branch has been filled by my family and the last branch is the USMC. I'll be the first of my generation to become military and pursue my dream. 

Unlike McCandless, I want to live for the people around me, for the people I love and care for. He's a waste of life that has no purpose that wanted to dodge life just to be away from responsibilities. Instead of being like a normal person and living on, he goes off on some "finding myself" adventure. I have lived in 2 countries that have been way different by their level of classes. In Vietnam, people that are poor will never be rich because of the Communist state and the corruption in the government. Meanwhile, in the US, people like me have many opportunities to pursue my goals, dreams, and become wealthier. Living in a free country gives you many different advantages to become better. And for a rich person like that foo McCandless, using his already high status to waste like that is irresponsible and a waste of life. I hope. no one else follows this dude's footstep and "finding myself". That's just stupid, find. yourself is to do the things you love, but also remember that other people exist so use your life to the max. And instead of DYING go and help the less fortunate.

Reading or hearing is just annoying. The dude just lives a reckless life not knowing his true potential and ends up dying. To just being free while having the advantages through his financially rich family. He's not a bad person, but just a nut job of a person. 

The good: There aren't many goods I can think of from this foo. But the only thing he's done well was probably the donation to charity. Before leaving his life, he donates all he has to charity to help others. That's the only thing I like about him other than that he's pretty much a crappy person. Just a clueless and irresponsible SPED of a person. 

The BAD: Everything about this guy is bad from the beginning to the end. Not only does he give his family lives a life full of mystery. Living and questioning what they ever did wrong for him to just pack up and leave a family like this. Also to just give away an opportunity that not most has in life is just pure stupidity. Many lower classes have trouble even having a meal on their plate and others there have everything. Even having a whole new car and complains that too much. LIKE BRUH I'M OVER HERE HAVING BARELY MONEY FOR EXTRA EXPENSES SO STFU. McCandless is a selfish brat that has nothing to show us. To follow a dream to be free and live in a beautiful place. Bruh with all the money his family has, he could probably go travel 24/7 without a worry about financial problems.

In the end, I hate this story, this stupid of a person, and to even hear about his life. He has nothing for me to learn about and is a waste of my time. I don't want to learn about the death of such a pathetic person. So many opportunities more than a normal lower class and still thrown away. SO GODAM DUM.
