In the poem 'Coming home', Sheers uses a powerful way of illustrating the concept of time passing through the structure of the poem. When he makes the stanza that is directly talking about the grandfather, it is shorter than others to illustrate that the speakers grandfather is aging and how his unsteady hand that is in contact with the lip of each glass is 'a tune he plays faster each year'. This is effective as it portrays the fact that the grandfather is getting weaker each year and is coming closer to mortality.

Sheers displays the passing of time by utilizing a strong visual image in order to illustrate that the author’s grandfather is aging. In the last stanza, he shows that death is just around the corner for the grandfather as the grandfather pours the wine with his "unsteady hands" indicating the he is weak and fragile because he is aging. This tells the readers that his death is nearing as time is passing and the in

In the poem 'Coming Home', Sheers uses several ways of demonstrating the way of time passing and the main one is the structure. In the second stanza, the author Owen talks about how "he works on the hole that reappears every winter" the poet utilises enjambment which shows the passing of time.

Sheers uses stanzas to display his concept of time to the readers. In the last stanza, Sheer's grandfather has a smaller text to symbolise his small life that is left compared to the other two stanzas with "his unsteady hand" that is a "tune he plays faster each year". This suggests that each year he gets older, weaker and approaching his death.

In the poem 'Coming Home', Sheers uses structure to portray the idea of the passing of time in the poem. The third stanza is written to be shorter than the first two to symbolize the time left for the "grandfather", compared to the mom and dad as it is written about the grandfather's aging up to his inevitable death. This links back to the theme of time in the poem
