udtryksformer. Lydkunstnerens materiale spænder fra reallyde i vores nære og fjerne omgivelser – kropslyde, bilstøj, ringelyde, maskinlyde, vindens susen i træerne osv. – til kunstige teknologiske lyde, som f.eks. skabes ved hjælp af forskellige digitale programmer.

Født i en arbejderfamilie i Paris fik han en central rolle i moderne skulpturhistorie som både en mester i og en oprører mod Beaux-Arts traditionen.

Blandt hans bedst kendte skulpturer er Grubleren og Kysset. Grubleren findes i mange originale versioner, bl.a. på Glyptoteket og ses i talrige film, bl.a. The Blues Brothers (1980) og Nat på museet 2 (2009).

Rodin var inspireret af renæssancebilledhuggeren Michelangelo, hvilket kommer til udtryk ved Rodins meget muskuløse skulpturer.

I 1957 begyndte Per Kirkeby at læse geologi på Københavns Universitet. 1964 blev han kandidat med speciale i arktisk kvartærgeologi. Dette ses ofte afspejlet i hans kunst.
Fra 1962 til 1965 besøgte han Eks-skolen i København. Her beskæftigede han sig med mange udtryksformer - især raderingen. Internationalt er Kirkeby mest kendt for abstrakte malerier i storformat og kulisseagtige murstensskulpturer, som findes i mange danske og tyske byer. Han var flere gange repræsenteret på Biennalen i Venedig og på Documenta-udstillingerne i Kassel.
