It is difficult for a provider to be properly restrained while providing appropriate patient care. Bench seats are equipment with lap only belts and provide some protection during a wreck. The bench seat would be to optimal place to sit while restrained and performing patient care however, you are limited in you ability to move around. The Captain's chairs are equipped with either a lap only or lap shoulder belt. A lap shoulder belt provides the best protection during an MVC but drastically limits your ability to provide patient care due to limitations in movement plus being positioned behind the patient.

While training is imperative and suggested, the main issue is application of the knowledge. If in a busy system, resting when providers can. Some classes that can be useful is EVD and TIMS, patient handling and proper transporting. But the most useful tool is provider awareness, professionalism, and common sense. On top of training, discipline should follow for improper vehicle handling/patient safety.
