Hawker centres are a type of food court with a wide variety of local dishes. These hawker centres are a hallmark of Singapore's food culture and provide a place where locals and tourists can sample a diverse range of Singaporean cuisines in one place.

Hawker centres burst onto the scene in 1970s Singapore as a bold government move to clean up street food culture and improve public health. Before that, street hawkers sold their delicious dishes in crowded, unhygienic conditions. Purpose-built hawker centres changed everything—creating safer, cleaner spaces where vendors could thrive.

But they became much more than just tidy food courts. These buzzing hubs brought together Chinese, Malay, Indian, and other communities, each preserving and sharing generations-old recipes. The result? A vibrant celebration of Singapore’s multicultural food heritage. Today, hawker centres aren’t just places to eat—they’re where traditions, flavors, and local life come together

It’s Boon Lay food place village! Which is located conveniently close to where I live. This hawker centre also has some notable stalls such as Boon Lay power nasi lemak which is infamous for its fragrant nasi lemak featuring coconut rice cooked with high-quality coconut oil and served with a variety of accompaniments such as fried chicken wings, otah, and sambal sotong. the food in this hawker centre never fails to hit the spot ! They taste as divine as they smell and there is a variety of flavours in each dish. I love this hawker centre as this is where all my relatives and family gather to celebrate special occasions, so this place holds a special place in my heart. This hawker centre also has a variety of foods from other cultures and it is a beautiful blend of flavours.
