I know so much more about what was going on in the west during this time period than I do about the East coast, I was grateful to learn more about how the things happening in the east trickeled down to the west in some ways and in others really didn't affect things.

I unfortunately don't get to teach about this time period currently but I loved listening to these ladies and being able to see how this is still impacting our lives today. I have two relatives who immigrated here during this time period and can see how it impacted them and why their stories are what they are.

YSOS and new ways of using primary sources. One of the biggest will be in how I teach the Reconstruction amendments. I love the idea of using primary sources to show how people responded to these amendments. I am hoping that will also help my students keep them straight in their heads.
