On page 4, it says something about how Becca is really smart and that she skipped a grade. I feel like that will have something to do in the story. Maybe something about the Big Dark, or the town/townspeople. Maybe Becca will help someone with a problem. It also said that Becca’s flashlight wasn’t working anymore because of the Big Dark. The flashlight was a gift from their dad back when Becca was having nightmares. The flashlight had helped her feel safe and protected. Because the flashlight isn’t working anymore, I think that Becca might start having nightmares again and that might result or lead to something bad farther into the story.

On page 21, this scene plays out. “This is how it starts!” He shouted, firing a shot in the air. “This is how we take back our freedom!” I definitely think that Mr. Bragg and his family has something to do with the Big Dark. The Bragg family’s theories seem very bizarre and different then usual. I also think that Mr. Bragg and his family is going to do something that will hurt the town. Perhaps maybe shooting someone or damaging property. The Bragg family is also very suspicious because the fact that the women never leave their compound is out of the ordinary. First of all, in a lot of families, the women, not trying to be sexist, do a lot of the housework. Things like cooking, cleaning and shopping. Does that mean that the men do the shopping? Also the fact that the Bragg family carries around guns with them is also very suspicious. Even though it might be legal in some states, it’s very intimidating and unnecessary. And then actually shooting the gun, was a bold move, because it definitely could have hurt someone and also damaged property

On page 21 and 22, the school custodian, Reggie Kingman, was introduced. He had stopped Mr. Bragg and his son from shooting the Superette. Reggie Kingman was also apparently was a volunteer police man. He remained very calm during his conversation with the Bragg’s. Also, was it just me, or did anyone else think it was really weird that he stocked up on all the tuna and peanut butter? I also liked Reggie’s courage when he stood up to Mr. Bragg. Reggie might be an important character in the future

We were doing a class project on him, remember, he wrote a famous poem about how the world ends in either fire or ice. What if it’s both?’” I think this quote helps us understand how Becca is smarter than average, and notices details that not a lot of others don’t notice.

The fire consuming the Superette was so hot and bright, it hurt to look inside.” I think this quote was powerful in a bad way. Because it showed that the one drugstore in the town was burning down, and that all hope was lost.

Sara Lindstrom. On page 83 Bragg says,” I say you’re a spy sent to betray us.”

I think that in this book so many people are just jump right to conclusion. Like after the fire they all of a sudden blamed Mr.Bragg’s sons. Then they were about to burn down his place, like what if it wasn’t him. I think this just shows how ruthless people can be in times like this. I do agree that they should assume the worst to be prepared if it is correct, but maybe don’t try to burn someone’s house down and not know if they did it.

I think this is a very meaningful part to the book because when he says seventeen days in counting that really means how many days before his mom is out of pills and could die, due to low blood pressure. I think it is even more important because he is taking it upon himself to try and help her.

In my opinion this was one of the saddest sentences in the book so far. I would say that because you can see that all he wants is this to be over, and he is living in a fantasy world when he is saying these things. Although I don’t like Kingsman one bit I do feel bad that he fells the need to do these things, and it putting on an act for every one to feel better. On the other hand I think it was very wrong to lie to people close to you that you care about, and when they find out(if they ever do) they will be very devastated.

If the power outage came in the summer it would have been all right. Since it’s in the winter, people have died and I think that more and more will too.

I GOT IT!”

This really shows how far Charlie is willing to go for his mom, even fighting off coyotes for her. This was a very brave time for him and was a moment of conflict in the book, Charlie had to decide weather to fight the coyotes, feed them, or run from them. I think that Charlie also made a good decision here because he wouldn’t have stood a chance running away or fighting the coyotes.

On page 114 the man states, “Can’t you read? We’re full up. No room at the inn.”

This is meaningful because it shows people’s personalities change because of the big dark. This man seems very rude and I have to wonder if he is usually like this. The man’s son seems embarrassed by the rude tone of his dad’s voice, if his dad was always like this (rude) then he would be used to it by now, right? So I think that the man’s personality has changed because of this crisis, I bet that he is usually kind and fun and because now, because of obvious reasons, he has became a little rude. Often times, when a guardian is rude that child under that guardian becomes rude too. Example: mr Bragg and his sons. The younger boy doesn’t seem like that.

It’s very sad because it really resembles defeat. It shows how cruel people can be to have success and how good people go through more defeat. I think the Mr. Bragg was to obsessed with his fantasy of being a leader that he couldn’t see why he wasn’t one.
