On that date, I began my journey into the Principles of Biochemistry course, and it was also the first time I met Profesor Madya Dr. Shakinaz binti Desa, one of the panelists who interviewed me during the interview session. More commonly known as Dr. Shake, her cheerful and friendly demeanor made me even more excited to be her student. Dr. Shake explained our Principles of Biochemistry course online via the Google Meet platform because lectures were conducted online. "At the beginning, I wasn't sure if I could take this course because it involved chemistry, a subject I didn't enjoy in school. However, Dr. Shake made the subject more approachable with the Google Sheet she created, which contained various resources. This made me confident to take on this course for this semester.

26 March 2024 is the first class held virtually for SBK3013 Principles of Biochemistry using Google Meet platform. I was quite excited to be able to join Dr. Shakinaz class as this is not the first time that I have met her. I have joined The Asian Youth Innovation Awards under Dr Shakinaz guide along with my senior Athirah and Syak. I was really impressed on the meticulous lesson plan and sem plan our lecturer has prepared for us. Therefore, I really look forward on our class later.

During this week, we also measured our rest heart rate, waist-hip ratio, body weight and fitness level.

On March 26, 2024, my first class for the SBK3013 Biochemistry course starts online. The first time I participated in this class I was very excited because the lecturer who taught me for the course was Associate Professor Dr. Shakinaz binti Desa who is more friendly called Dr. Shake is a very cheerful person and his mouth is always full of advice for us students. This makes me more excited and can't wait to start face-to-face classes later.

I also completed the task that was given, which was to fill in all the personal information in the google sheet, answer the personality test and make a short video related to my introduction to be uploaded to the platform that Dr. Shake prepare.

For this week's class session, my friends and I studied the topic of enzymes. Dr. Shake teaches and gives us exposure to methods of using AI in obtaining information and knowledge according to our wishes and interests. This is a new experience and knowledge for me.

I was looking for an interesting issue to make the theme of my group's Explore and I found an issue related to pregnancy and aging discussed in an article on the science daily website. After that, the group members and I used AI to get appropriate titles and Research Questions for our Explore research theme.

On Wednesday morning this week, my friends and I attended a lecture on aerobic and anaerobic metabolism delivered by Pm. Dr. Use UPSI sports science and coaching faculty lecturers. This program is held at the UPSI stadium starting at 8.00 am. During this program we also learn the correct methods for warm-up and cool-down activities. We also jog and run alternately for 2.3 kilometers to feel and understand more clearly about aerobic and anaerobic metabolism.

During this week, I could not attend the face-to-face class due to the rescheduling of my flight from Tawau to Kuala Lumpur. However, after the briefing on our Heutagogical Learning and EXPLORATE tasks by Dr. Shake, my team members keep me updated on the briefing details all the time. Then, me and my team members discussed on the topic that we would like to be our research theme. After few discussions on the topic, we have decided on the theme Bump to Wrinkle: The Relationship of Pregnancy and Accelerated Aging in Young Adults. We got this title after using AI and to search for appropriate research questions as well.

During this week, I also attend a lecture via Google Meet covering the topic glucogenesis and gluconeogenesis by Dr. Evy Yulianti, the guest lecture form Yogyakarta State University. We have enzyme topical test during this week as well.

Protein estimation can be conducted by various methods, including the Lowry method and total nitrogen content estimation. The principle of the Lowry method is based on the blue color developed by the reduction of the phosphomolybdic-phosphotungstic components in the Folin-Ciocalteu reagent by the amino acids tyrosine and tryptophan present in proteins. The vitamin C lab session's primary objective is to determine which of the following contains the highest amount of vitamin C: pineapple chunks that have been chilled in the fridge for five days, a package of orange juice, or a vitamin C tablet. The second objective is to use titration to quantify the vitamin C content in each sample. This involves using a known concentration of iodine solution to titrate the vitamin C in each sample until the endpoint is reached, indicated by the persistence of the blue-black color in the iodine-starch complex.

After the lecture, we are divided into a few teams to answer the Quizlet on lipids topic. The next day, Wednesday morning, I have attended guest lecture by Dr. Gunathevan title From Cells to Cardio: Explore fitness through Biochemistry. We ran for about 2.7 km around the lake to learn while experiencing hands on about the anaerobic and aerobic respiration.

For Week 10, we have conducted The Giant Map activity. Each member in a group will be instructed to create a giant map about metabolic pathway. So, each team member needs to master our own respective topic. As for me, I need to master the gluconeogenesis metabolic pathway and its regulation. For this, I refer to the notes to become expert on this topic. We were given time 1 hour to combine all the metabolic pathway in one mahjong paper. Then we will visit the other team and the other way around to present our map and for question-and-answer session as well.

Week 11, we started the laboratory session and this week we started with enzyme experiment. Before the experiment started, we have some briefing from Puan Nurlida regarding safety measures and precautions in the lab. Dr. Shake also gave briefing on the enzyme experiment on introducing the experiment and explaining how to use spectrophotometer as well as the dilution method. This experiment is really interesting as I just found out that green tea is a very good antioxidants which makes it the inhibitor for amylase enzyme. For this experiment, we are going to find out whether the green tea is a competitive, uncompetitive or noncompetitive inhibitor for salivary amylase.

For Week 12, we have done lipid and protein experiment. I am in charged for protein experiment. I learn how to use centrifuge machine during this lab. It was quite easy to use after Puan Nurlida taught me. For this experiment, we aim to use Lowry method to estimate the amount of protein present in a sample. For lipid test, we need to determine the percentage of lipids in our snacks and after that we need to determine whether the snack are saturated or unsaturated fat.

This is the last experiment for this subject which is carbohydrates and vitamin C experiment. Khairul and Subky was in charge of Vitamin C experiment while me and Danial do the Carbohydrates experiment. For carbohydrates experiment, we use the phenol-sulfuric acid method to estimate total carbohydrate. The sample we have used is rice noodles and bread. The sample with higher glucose concentration turned dark yellow while lower concentration turned pale yellow.

For vitamin C experiment, our objective of experiment is to determine the concentration of each sample. Also, we need to use titration method to quantify the vitamin c content in each sample. Here, we used pineapple, vitamin c tablet and orange juice as sample.

During Week 14, we started the class early at 12.30 p.m. to have lunch and decide on the turns for presentation. We are the last group to present. Our presentation is about our heutagogical project-based learning on the topic Bump to Wrinkle: The Relationship Between Pregnancy and Accelerated Aging in Young Adults. We aim to share our new finding with our friend in class providing a great overview of the effect of pregnancy to shortening of telomere as it is really an interesting topic to learn.

This week is a very important week for me and all my friends who take the biochemistry course because we have to make a presentation of the results of our research through an exploration related to the title of each group. The topic of my group is related to expectant mothers, telomere shortening and biological aging. My group got the last turn to present which made me even more nervous. After finishing everything, I feel very relieved and proud of myself and my friends with a good presentation.
