How has the use of the term “Race” impacted people’s perceptions of other people? I believe that the term "Race" have not impacted people's perception but the way different races are portrayed and viewed impacts people's perceptions. Is this a fair system to use (meaning, should we identify people based on Race). Why or why not? I believe that this is very unfair because the way certain races are portrayed inferior and others portrayed superior and if that's what seen by people, the natural and subconscious result is to go by what you have seen and racial profiling can determine opportunities and success of any particular race.

Facts

1. Race is a new idea. Ancient societies didn't divide people by how they look, instead they were divided by their religion, status, class, and language.

2. No characteristics, traits, or gene distinguishes all the members of one race from all members of another race.

3. The gene of skin color has nothing to do with the genes for hair texture, eye shape, blood type, musical talent, or athletic ability.

4. Race is not biological it is just a social idea our government and society has created

5. Racial practices were created within a government by the laws and society.

6. When the Unites States was created equality was a new idea and the concept of race was used to deny the rights and freedom that others had .

My partner did not do very well because of the same reasoning, including some people did not look how we perceived that specific race to look. What did you find as your results (meaning, were you and your partner accurate in identifying people based on physical features? Explain. I found that "race" could not be classified just from a picture, but the features of certain people and that s hard to see in just a computer photo. Why is it that physical characteristics cut through “racial lines”? According to this, Racial Identifying is just a socially made up thing and nobody really fits perfectly into no category of "race". Is there any redeeming value to organizing people’s race according to racial characteristics? No. Why or why not? Because you should be accepted or declined by you, yourself, how your personality is but not by the color of your skin, or the shape of your nose, etc.

Also people's race have been changed to cooperate with what the government wants, such as when they wanted to limit Immigration quotas, they changed Hispanic from White to Hispanic. How did ancient people identify differences among people? Ancient people identified the difference among people by cultural perspectives and language. At what point did the term “white” appear to distinguish people, AND how has this distinction lead to systematic exclusion and unequal treatment of other racial/ethnic groups? In 1680, the term white came about in Colonial laws separating black slaves from white European "indentured slaves". These laws where put more harshly on the "blacks" while whites were given new rights and opportunities including overseas to slaves.

Just as though all the research that I have done to prove what they said was incorrect, I have things to prove they are incorrect but no-one have an exact fact, therefore, nobody really knows. Why isn’t race biological? Race is not biological because there is not a chromosome of the particular "race". So, are people, who have been organized into racial groups, more alike or more dissimilar? People that are organized in race groups according to this website are more dissimilar. Explain. This is because they are only grouped by their physical appearances, including their skin color, their nose shape, there head shape, etc. and not by their culture and how they person actually really is.

What slideshow under “Me, My Race, and I” did you and your partner find most interesting? We all found the Slideshow Presentation of "Split Identity". Why? We choose "Split Identity" because it seemed very interesting at the fact that we are at a certain age where we have competition to get jobs, scholarships, etc. and it had the phrase/description of "you and your race are sitting at a table, who gets noticed first?" and that really caught our eyes. Based on previous sections from the site, why do you believe people tend to outwardly treat people, perceived to be in a particular racial group, differently? I believe people tend to perceive and treat different racial groups different ways because of what they see and what is on social media and what is put out about that particular race group therefore people subconsciously put in their head and treat the way that they believe they should be treated from the image that is put out on that particular race group. What contributes to people’s fears of others? I a lot of it comes from the social perspective of things, Social media such as television, Facebook, Instagram. Twitter, etc. with these powerful people putting out these powerful messages in which people go by and not all messages are good, especially the news. Lots of people look up to the news for current, true information when they get lots of false and revised information just so that it could be watched. What are the economic and social effects of racial discrimination in the USA? Racial discrimination pay a very high role of the economical stand point is that some people in the courts, and that have higher powers are older and sometimes still have those type of negative ways stuck in their head and it's still lowkey happened such as the fact that 76% of the black community makes up prison population when there's only 13% of us here in America. To me, socially stand points of racial discrimination is the most powerful because this is a new era of living and it involves lots of techonology, therefore any messages could be put out, negative of positive, and it subcountionally put in your head so when you go out in the real world it effects how you feel about different racial groups, etc. Together, you and your partner make a new definition of what it is to be “An American”, based , on what you now know about race. My group came up with the definition of; an american is a person that have legally lived in America for a graceful amount of time.

Where Race Lives! ~ Timara Bowman

Describe the “Downward Spiral” for non-white families. The "Downward Spiral" for non-white families are put together in five stages in which includes, the first step, "White Flight Begins" , this is when non-white families and groups began to move in the white parts of town, where whites were housed, ect. and the whites began to move away because they felt as though the neighborhoods were not degrading and they feared property values would fall, soon business and jobs began to the the same thing. Then there comes the next step in which "The Property Values Go Down", because of the residents leaving, the consequent decline in demand caused the housing prices to fall; the non white middle class was not known for being large enough to sustain the market demand. This caused the next step, "Taxes Go Up", when the whites left, they took their wealth with them and wealthy communities have lower tax rates and better services and the poor communities have the exact opposite, public services became underfunded because public services are largely funded through property taxes and when a community's total wealth diminishes, it causes the public services to become underfunded. This causes the next step in which is "Services Suffer", no communities are getting more into poverty every day and are barely able to obtain the same level of public services such as schools, sanitation, public transportation, police and fire protection all began to decline at the same time that the demand for these services inclined. Lastly, we hit the worst step "Rock Bottom", this is when it is further likely to the placement of highways, prisons, waster storage, toxic faculties, etc. Community leaders are inviting these specific industries into their neighborhoods to create jobs and stimulate local growth, but they are overlooking the fact that they are risking further depopulation and also the safety and health of their residents. What are the most important factors for families to stay healthy and happy in their communities? The schooling systems and public amenities need to stay how they are suppose to be, and residents will stay put and happy. So, what I really gathered from this website is that if you keep different racial groups together and don't mix them, everything will be fine and everyone will stay in the place they are already are and will be happy while i completely disagree with this concept. What role does race play in the distribution of these factors? Race Role play a big role in this downwards spiral because according to this website if white never left and took their money and resources with them this would have never happened which I completely disagree because first and foremost, "non-white" people was never accepted in the white community therefore this does not even make sense. At one point "non-white" people were so tired of being rejected in the white community that they decided to go and make their own community and they actually began to have more resources and more money than white communities which upset them and the white communities destroyed everything they own which caused them to lose everything and forced them to do anything to get money, which includes running to white communities for work and resources because they had it and it was not destroyed. Explain. So I completely disagree with this website when saying "If whites didn't leave, this chain reaction might not take place.
