These are the main sources that attracted my attention on my place thought walk and played the Parallaxsis game. Each image had a different sound, tone and pitch to it. As I walked to a spot and I sat down I thought about what Murray Schafer said in his video “Sounds can enrich your life” I heard the swaying of tree’s and felt the wind as I stood next to them. When I walked on the path, the crunch noise from the rocks from my shoes. The long grass in picture 3 is where I heard non-human sounds such as frogs, crickets and ducks. Quote from walking with place that stood out to me before my place walk was “For it is only when we exercise curiosity to find out more about where we are and who and what is there with us, that we find the unknown dimensions to our common worlds” (Taylor & Giugni, 2012, P 110)
I thought of that quote and it encouraged me to find and look in between the ‘norm’ which is how I came up with my creative response.

This idea came about me thinking what I can see, hear and something that interests me. I thought about portals to another world. I believe that portals exist in the paranormal world, and that there are portals in space. As the space around me was lit up bright as it was a warm day I thought about when entering a portal it would be the opposite.
I heard frogs in the place I visited for the Parallaxis game. The sound of frog’s really stood out to me from every other sound that was around. There was ducks, the sound of wind, crickets, clanking noises way in the back ground from the playground but my mind kept going back to the frogs.
And I saw lots of tree’s. Tree’s surrounded by mulch which visually represented portals, even the cracks in the tree’s could be a portals. This is how I came up with the concept of Frogs in space.

This assessment got me thinking about how to incorporate the Paraellaxsis game into Early Childhood Education. Then I realised that it’s much more easier for children to engage in creative music, drama, movement and sounds as they use their imagination abilities. Children are able to open their minds and play with their surroundings.
As an adult and an ECE we can take children on place-thought walks to extend on their knowledge about the world they live in. Children will use their imagination in any setting and remember past experiences to use in their dramatic play. They will recreate sounds they’ve heard, find objects that sparks their memory.

This assessment definitely has opened my mind to the power that place-thought walks can teach children, as they say the environment is the third teacher. And I wish to incorporate these practices into my teachings in the future to extend on the children knowledge of the world they live in.
