Can be seen to have adapted to it's nutrient-poor habitat due to the lack of collagenous toughness of skin which is usually typical of shark species and a poorly calcified cartilaginous skeleton.

They possess rich endowed sensors to detect prey in it's dark habitat.

They have small eyes with fully functional irises that dilate and contract due to it's dark habitat and has been thought to possibly have the ability to detect bioluminescence of prey.

These sharks have elongated flattened snouts that are covered in electroreceptor sensing organs which are extensions of the lateral line system (organs to detect movement/pressure change) called hair cells so they can detect prey using their vibration-sensitive hair cells at night.
