Q3. What have you learned from your audience feedback? From the offset of creating our music video we knew it wasn't going to be difficult in a sense of the understanding the story behind our video. The story line behind it is that a boy almost can't make his mind up which girl he wants to pursue something with, therefore, plays them off each other without the two girls knowing a thing. I feel I tried my best to incorporate the right clips throughout to show our narrative, but there are some doubts to whether it is clear enough. However, I wanted our target audience to watch our video and enjoy it, and be active to watch they are seeing rather than passive. I feel active audiences will try to seek out the meaning behind our video which might mean they pay attention to the lyrics and the clip shown beside the lyrics. A lot of the feedback was positive, for example, we were told we included effective natural shots of myself and Tahlia in the right places throughout the whole video itself. Also, we identified our audience enjoy the choice of colours I incorporate to our video throughout voiced that they were significantly relevant to the theme of Indie genre and including shots of a fire when the lyrics said 'bonfire' proved to be significantly effective. Thus conforming to Goodwin's Conventions of music videos as we showed a clear relationship between lyrics and visuals. However, our video is arguably not voyeuristic as Tahlia and I chose not to use provocative angles to show off our bodies as we felt it wasn't appropriate for our style of song.

I consciously acknowledged the fact there would be a range of interpretations towards our music videos meaning because it is very specific and we don't actually include the boy in the video, which mean our audience need to be active viewers when watching it. From audience feedback we received, it was clear people were able to actively acknowledge our video was conveying a message to them that Tahlia and I were having boy trouble. This links to Stuart Hall's Reception Theory. The theory is an active audience theory which clearly sees the audience as being actively engaged in their interpretation of media texts, rather than passive. I think if you were a passive viewer whilst watching our video, you would leave yourself confused at the end as it takes great amounts of concentration and understanding in order to collate what our message is. The idea basically suggests that individuals interpret texts in different ways because everyone's minds work differently when watching music videos and processing what they are seeing.
