CAUSE: George Wallace did not believe that African American students should join the University,so he tried to block the entrance.

December 1955, Montgomery Bus Boycott

Launched in,Alabama, after Rosa Parks is arrested.

CAUSE: Rosa Parks was arrested because she sat in the front of the bus which was "whites-only". This made some people upset so they boycotted busses and carpooled or even walked instead.

February 1960, Sit-in protest

Movement begins at Woolworth's lunch counter in Greensboro,N.C and spreads to the nation.

CAUSE: There were dining restaurants that segregated whites from blacks by making some restaurants "whites-only",They retaliated by organizing a peaceful protest called a "sit-in" where they would simply sit in diners that were white only.

April 3 - May 10, 1963- Police arrest Dr.Martin Luther King Jr.

And other ministers demonstrated in Birmingham,Alabama and then turned fire hoses and police dogs on the marchers.

CAUSE: Civil Rights activists,including MLK, organized a march, when the police got involved they arrested King.

CAUSE: President Johnson recognised the inequality in society and made and signed the Civil Rights Act of 1965.

February 21, 1965

CAUSE: Malcolm X was one of the most vocal and bold civil rights activists. His blatant words eventually angered the public which led to his assassination.

August 6,1965

President Johnson signs the Voting Rights Act of 1965,banning prerequisites to voting such as fees and literacy tests.

CAUSE: President Johnson and other civil rights activists noticed the unfairness in the voting system and that it restricted specific groups from voting,so he signed the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

CAUSE: Although Martin Luther's words inspired most people for civil rights,it angered some and those people took action,assassinating MLK.

CAUSE: While the nation was divided between Doves and Hawks, and people were trying to avoid the draft, there were many protests going on. In 1970, there was a protest in Vietnam that was turning violent. They attempted arson on the ROTC building so the police stepped in, killing 4 protestors and wounding 8.

CAUSE: WWII was a very eventful war that ended with the fall of Germany and Hitler. So the U.S decided to publish papers that explained their involvement in Indochina during WWII.

CAUSE: Israel took over more land and their territory got much bigger. This increased their tension with many Arab states so they launched a surprise attack.

August 9th: 1974: Nixon resigns

CAUSE: The Watergate scandal caused the public and Congress to see Nixon with new suspicion. In an attempt to prevent that, he tried to cover up the burglaries and a specific tape with crucial evidence. The cover up made the public more angry so they wanted to have him impeached, but before the trial Nixon resigned to try to preserve trust for the government.

CAUSE: During the Vietnamese war, the U.S and their allies retreated and withdrew their troops, leaving the Vietnamese alone. This gave them a significant disadvantage which caused them to lose the war and without America's support, Saigon was taken over.
