"Mom says, I'm mature for my age," I told them, "and she lets me cook for myself a lot."

This quote informs us that at a young age Jeanette had to mature. She was only three years- old when she was already cooking for herself and by herself without any adult supervision.

This picture symbolizes the fact that her parents weren't capable and mature enough to take care of their own children.

Jeannette was the only one who wasn't able to swim so Rex took upon to teach her the rough way.

"... build a Glass Castle."

Like many broken promises throughout the book we can see that building a castle was one of them. Rex made all the plans and dimensions which made himself and the children believe that he was gonna be able to build it. But after many years the children started to realize that the idea wasn't gonna happen.

This picture symbolizes that the many times Rex told them that they would live in a big house with many windows was all false and it was never gonna be able to happen.
