Hardin's tax policy affected imports on Britain and France's war debt issues because tax raised some US imports to 60 percent which is the highest level ever. This protected the chemical and metal industry from competition from foreign competitors, but it also made it impossible for Britain and France to pay the US back it's war debt. So these two countries turned to Germany. But germany was experiencing serious war debt. So the US sent Charles G Dawes to negotiate loans. Duane's then came up with the Dawes act which was when American investors loaned 2.5 billion dollars to germany so they could pay their debt to France and Britain. France and Britain then paid that money back to the US. During this time president Harding's friends damaged his administration because things like the teapot dome scandal. this was when hsi friend Albert B Fall managed to get oil reserves from the Navy to the interior department. When this happened he leased the land out to oil company's. After this he was later found guilty of bribery and was the first american to be convinced of a felony while being in the cabinet post.

One item that was popular during this time was the automobile. This changed american life because people could get to places faster like their jobs. This also lead to paved roads and route 66 which is a paved road from chicago to california. This also lead to more businesses like gas stations began appearing all over. This industry also helped build an economic base for oil producing states like California and Texas. This was also bad for the railroads because the middle class could afford automobiles so the railroad would get less money. During the post war there was also a lot of advancements in the airline industry. for example the U.S started it's first mail carrying service with the airplanes. This also was bad for the railroad because most people decided to fly in an airplane instead of going on a train. Something else that was invented in this time was credit. Credit played a big role in this time. Credit was when you bought goods for little money down and payed for it over time. Credit helped people get electricity and buy different things like the microwave and the refrigerator. Most people got credit or wanted credit because of the advertising it got. They had slogans like Enjoy while you pay. Credit or the installment plan fuel a superficial prosperity because people were buying without paying immediately so it made them look like they had more money than they really have. During this time some businesses as well as farmers did not do well because with all of their new machinery they were overproducing which lead the prices of the crops to go down in price.
