A major issue in A Doll's House is feminism. Feminism is about social and economical equality, which, for a lack of better words, is not seen in A Doll's House, as the women must look after the children, the house, the gift buying, and the food, whereas the men must work and provide, they are the breadwinners. For total equality, both genders should share these responsibilities.
 A major theme is deceit. Nowhere is this more apparent with Nora, who continuously keeps secrets from her husband. From the chocolate she sneaks, to the truth of where she got the money for their trip to Italy. The director would have to consider how to show these with clarity, and meet all of the key elements for genre and style. The genre for A Doll's House is a tragedy, which is told in a contemporary drama style.
Genre: Tragedy because of its lack of poetic justice, its bad ending, and other factors such as  external conflicts, with Krogstad threatening Nora with revealing what she did, and the Internal conflict, which is Nora's need to spend money to not feel empty inside.

It was also to encourage the reader to question on the cultural norms and values. however, the director maybe be able to tweak some non-essential details of the story, characters or technicalities. This is highlighted Torvalds backstory. A couple of years ago, Torvald worked himself so much that he became ill with an unknown disease. During this time, no one knew what depression was, so they just chalked it up to a mysterious infection, that could only be cured with a vacation.
