The confederacy was set up at Corinth, and the union planned an attack. The general, Johnston had guessed this and planned an attack from the Southwest. They battled for a while, the union had a great artillery assembly and the confederacy got nearly 2300 yankees to surrender. Their main general died of blood loss from a gunshot/bullet. They put P.G.T. Beauregard in charge and he thought they were winning so he halted attacks. The hornet’s nest collapsed, causing the Confederacy to move forward their assaults. Grant’s unit was in need of backups so they called for them, but they couldn’t come right away. He had to form a new defensive line supported by more than 50 pieces of heavy artillery. Later, reinforcements came to their aid and they combined, the union was losing, then they tied with the confederacy and finally the confederacy was outnumbered and retreated. The confederacy broke off with the Yankees and there were many casualties, with the confederacy losing this battle, and the union coming out triumphant.

The Battle of Gettysburg was a short but important battle. After victory against the Union prior to Gettysburg, General Robert E. Lee took his troops to invade Pennsylvania. The battle lasted from July 1 to July 3, 1863. After the first successful invasions of the North, the Army of Northern Virginia had prepared an invasion of Gettysburg, which for the Army and Lee, was supposed to be a quick and easy victory, giving them the international recognition with the victory, Meanwhile, the Army of the Potomac was preparing too. President Lincoln named Major General George Gordon Meade to become the commander of the Army, due to the fact that the previous commander (Joseph Hooker) was weary of confronting Robert Lee. The first day started as Confederate divisions went into Gettysburg for supplies. Tim stead of supplies, the Confederates found 2 underpowered Union cavalry brigades. This started the first battle of Gettysburg, which pushed the Union to Cemetery Hill. Before more troops could arrive, Lee told Ewell, which at the time was the Army’s Second Corps. He declined and later Winfield Scott Handcock had arrived with more troop to defend the line along Cemetery Ridge. The second day started with General Lee telling the troopers to attack the Union at Cemetery Ridge and Culp’s Hill. The fight started at 4pm and lasted for hours. The fight went from a nest of boulders, to acres of farm land and orchards. The Confederate army was split into 3 parts. Lee’s men of the left, Longstreet’s men on the far left and Ewell’s men on the right. While fighting, Union had stalled the fights due to a lot of casualties. The third day started with Union troops pushing back Confederates away from Culp’s Hill. General Lee thought that his Army was on the brink of Victory the day before, which led him to attack with George Pickett, this attack is now called “Pickett’s Charge”. It started with Confederates launching bombs against the Union, this was a good start, but when regiments from Vermont, New York, and Ohio came and attacked both enemy flanks, the attack failed and ended the Battle of Gettysburg. The next day. Lee’s army retreated. After continuous losses against the South, the North got the Victory, which ended up helping them win the war.
