Las mujeres en comparacion con el antiguo hombre griego poseían una cantidad menor de derechos que el hombre, por ejemplo el derecho al voto, tierra o de heredar. Su proposito pirncipal era cuidar de los hijos engendrados. Pero eso es respecto a atenas, ya que en otras polis como lo era Esparta tenian mas accesos, pero siempre desfavorecidas con respecto al hombre. Por nombrar a una mujer que logró safarse de las cadenas , se puede hablar de la poeta safo de lesbos. Tambien estan representadas en la mitología donde se puede hallar a Atenea, Diosa de la sabiduria, que le ganó la batalla a poseidon por el nombre de la poli más importante; o perséfone, la diosa de las estaciones, a la que se rezó siempre esperando lluvias.

En la antigua China las mujeres eran consideradas como el complemento del hombre, en donde se consideraba que este era el cielo y La mujeres eran la tierra , generando así una analogía de sistemas de poder posicionandose en la cima. Además, al tratarse de una sociedad patriarcal, las mujeres no pueden dar consentimiento de si mismas, perdiendo el libre albedrío de sus cuerpos y mentes. Por otra parte, existe un sistema social de clases, en donde las primeras esposas provenientes de clanes nobles gozaban del beneficio de ser tratadas con cuidado, sin embargo, eran silenciadas a debatir frente a temas políticos sociales y comerciales; aquella mujer que era vista liderando un negocio por su propia cuenta era sinónimo de vergüenza, ya que significaba que no había un sucesor masculino en su linaje que se haga cargo de los asuntos del clan. Siguiendo esta idea, aquella mujer de un linaje noble o de suma riqueza que no se haya casado a la edad de 20 años, ya no era considerada apta para ser primera esposa, por lo tanto, la rebajaban a concubina que era el nivel más bajo de las clases, incluso debajo de los comerciantes. También, tenían que convivir en un Harem, en donde se pretendía explotarlas sexualmente con el fin de procrearan un sucesor masculino; añadido a lo anterior, se les quitaba el derecho a ser consideradas madres, el papel más cercano que se les brindaba eran "tías".
¿Cuáles son las diferencias más significativas con el ser mujer en las sociedades occidentales contemporáneas? 
En la época contemporánea, se habla abiertamente de los cambios fisiológicos de las mujeres, como el periodo, en donde se perdió el miedo a hablar de la anatomía humana al ser un proceso biológico natural. Las mujeres, también gozan actualmente del derecho a participar en política, procesos sociales y económicos, pueden estudiar, cosa que en la antigua China el porcentaje de analfabetismo en las mujeres era muy alto. Por otro lado, las mujeres logran decidir que usar en su diario vivir ya que no están limitadas a la vestimenta según su estado civil; añadiendo que se goza de la libertad de vestir ropa casual, sin importar la moral de lo implica mostrar piel.
