Students will be able to name each season.

Students will be able to distinguish which characteristics of the weather are associated with each season. 

Introduction- Students will be introduced to and informed about the four seasons and their different characteristics.

Standard: 11.With prompting and support, identify the main topic and retell key details in a text. [RI.K.2]

19. Actively engage in group reading activities with purpose and understanding. [RI.K.10]

       The teacher will have a picture showing all four seasons. The teacher will begin discussing what the students already know about the seasons.  The teacher will ask the students what they know about season and make a KWL chart using the information shared by the students. Students will tell what they think the seasons are. After listing what they know on the chart the teacher will read an informational text, Four Seasons Make a Year by Anne Rockwell to the students. After reading the book the teacher will add additional information to the chart. The students will observe the pictures of the four seasons. The teacher will tell the names of the four seasons, what months they are in, and give characteristics of each. To help students relate to the seasons ask questions what did you do over the Summer? What did you do when it snowed?  Do you remember the first flower that you saw bloom?

 

Standard: 32. Confirm understanding of a text read aloud or information presented orally or through other media by asking and answering questions about key details and requesting clarification if something is not understood. [SL.K.2]

 The teacher will lead the class in a song. First she will read it to the students. The teacher will ask questions about the song that she read. Next, the teacher will sing the song, “Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall” and ask the students to listen and join in with her. Show the students the words Winter, Summer, Spring, and Fall. Students will ask questions about seasons. Allow the students to match which word goes with the picture for the correct season.

Standard: 25. Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to compose informative or explanatory texts in which they name what they are writing about and supply some information about the topic. [W.K.1]

Students will complete a book on seasons using the words winter, Summer, Fall, and Spring.  The teacher will ask student to share what they have learned about the seasons. Students will write, draw, and dictate to compose informative answers and color the pages of the My Seasons Book.

 

Standard: 2. With prompting and support, ask and answer questions about key details in a text. [RL.K.1]  a. Make predictions to determine main idea and anticipate an ending.

The students will watch and listen to a video about the four seasons of the year called A Book of Seasons. The students will observe the video and have time to share thoughts on the different seasons with their peers. The teacher will model the season cards and use the season word cards for the students to match. The teacher will ask students which season do they like best. The students write the season on paper to determine the most liked season after watching the video.

 

 

Assessment

The teacher will use the My Seasons Book to assess the students understanding of the four seasons.
