In the Sans Souci palace lives the "Happy Prince" who does not go out and is unconcerned about people outside his palace. When he dies, they make him a statue bathed in gold and precious stones. Now he is not happy, as he can see the reality of the people. One day, a swallow takes refuge in the statue and, seeing the princes’ sadness, agrees to help him, despite knowing that he has to emigrate. The swallow takes the precious stones out of the statue and gives them to the poor people. He also took the coated gold out until the prince became a simple statue. The cold affected the swallow and died at the feet of the prince; the statue cracked and his lead heart broke in two. God asked an angel to bring him the most beautiful things in the city. God agreed these were the bird and the prince’s heart and was happy with the angel’s choice.

Psychological description of the charactheres

● The Happy Prince: When he was still alive, the Happy Prince was a young prince who lived happily in his palace, and although he had to take care of his kingdom, he did not realize about anything that happened outside the palace. He was kind but naïve. However, when he died and then was turned with his heart into a statue, the prince became very sad since he realized the difficulties of the poor people in the city. His personality changed completely, he became someone that wanted to help others, becoming more charitable, pious and more humane than when he was alive, to the point of sacrificing himself for others.
● The swallow: Is a bird, which at first appears to be a happy and good hearted bird. At the beginning of the story he was in love with the reed, and he will do anything to fulfill her love with the reed, even stay with the reed and do not fly to Egypt with his flock. However, after he meets the statue of the Happy Prince, he demonstrates to be a kind swallow, who deeply cares for the prince and for the people from the city, even sacrificing himself. He shows himself as a charitable bird, who is willing to help others, even deciding to stay with the prince once the prince loses his eyes.
● The reed: There is no concrete description about the reed in the book, nevertheless it can be assumed the reed was not really interested in the swallow, but did not want to hurt him. Another interpretation is that the reed was relaxed, and like moving and dancing with the wind.

●The most beautiful lady: you could say that the girl is a bit self-centered and wants everything to be done and as soon as possible

● The seamstress: The woman is a person who deeply loves her son. She would do anything for her child. She is very hard working. At the moment she is very tired and very sad because her son is sick and she does not have enough money to help her child.
● The little son of the seamstress The sick child is described as someone very thirsty and very sick, thus he is probably desperate, tired and sad. However, he feels much better when the swallow helps him and you can see that he is actually a very happy child.
● The young man who writes the play: he is a young man who is desperate and very tired because of his economic and work situation, but when he sees the gift of the swallow, he feels very happy, he even cries from happiness. The latter demonstrates he is an emotional person.
● The girl who sells matches: She is a very sad and desperate girl, tired of her current life and wanting her father's acceptance.
● The other poor people of the town: The poor people in the village are very sad and desperate for help. With the help of the prince and the swallow, the children look better and their faces are happy.
● The Mayor: The Mayor is a very contemptuous and arrogant person, he likes to think of himself, he thinks he is the most important and he does not care about the people of his town.
● The councilmen: People who care a lot about the Mayor's opinion and they have to follow him everywhere and do everything he needs.
● God and the angel: they are very good and kind-hearted, they are not arrogant or self-centered, they are interested in the common welfare, they immediately recognize the good heart of the Happy Prince and the swallow.
