         <description><![CDATA[<div>1890- Sears catalogue offered a syringe and cocaine for $1.50<br>No drug laws<br>The first taxes were put on morphine and opium&nbsp;<br>1909- Smoking Opium Exclusion Act- banned the possession, importation an use of opium for smoking<br>1914- Congress passes the Harrison Act which regulates the production, importation, and distribution of opiates and cocaine<br>1919- The 18th amendment banned the sale, manufacturing and transportation of alcohol<br>National Prohibition Act- offered guidelines on how to federally enforce prohibition<br>1933- the 21st amendment was passed, overturns the 18th<br>1937- Marijuana Tax Act- placed a tax on the sale of cannabis, still not illegal, if you don't pay your taxes there is a hefty fine<br>1970- Controlled Substance Act- calls for regulation of certain drugs and substances<br>5 schedules of drugs, with 1 being the most dangerous<br>A schedule 1 drug is LSD<br>1971- Nixon declares the War on Drugs </div>]]></description>
