Percy was misunderstood trough his childhood, people calling him slow and stupid, but as the essay says, "To be great is to be misunderstood." When he was thrown into a world unknown to him, he had to forge on and discover it almost on his own. He stuck to his beliefs and spoke with "words as hard as cannon balls," when he believed someone was doing the wrong thing.
