         <description><![CDATA[<div>1905-08: Disruption of political meetings to gain publicity<br><br>1908-13: Limited threats to public order like chaining to railings in order to get arrested and then go on hunger strike in order to embarrass the government<br><br>At demonstrations outside the Houses of Parliament in 1910, violence and arrests led to the police accused of behaving in an unnecessarily harsh manner<br><br>1913-14: Attacks on the property of people opposed to female suffrage like Westminster Abbey, with the success of the "Cat and Mouse Act" leading to these attacks<br><br>In 1913, Emmeline Pankhurst was imprisoned for 3 years for her part in planning protests and Emily Davidson was killed at the Epsom Derby after throwing herself at the King's house as a protest against the government's continued failure to give women the vote (History Learning Site, National Archives, BBC History)</div>]]></description>
