         <description><![CDATA[<div>21ST Century Skills are skills that students will need to survive and become creative learners in the 21st century. These skills are broken down into three parts: Life and Career Skills, Learning and Innovative Skills, and Technology Skills. These skills will better prepare students to be successful at work, Life and citizenship, and support systems. This presentation will give a brief overview of 21st century skills and how they can be applied in an elementary school setting. 21st Century Skills are important because they will make learners more life and career ready, provide global awareness, and teach learners to become productive citizens.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Life and Career</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In the Life and Career section, students will need to learn accountability, flexibility, leadership skills, socials skills and how to be responsible for their actions. In this section students can work out problems that they could be faced with in a career setting and find the best solution.<br>For example:<br>Standard:<br><br></div><ul><li>Engage students with the real world data, tools, and experts they will encounter in college, on the job, and in life--students learn best when actively engaged in solving meaningful problems.</li></ul><div>Given the standard, in an elementary school setting a teacher could present their students will a job related issue.<br>ex: Sarah works for Fedex, her boss has given her several assignments, she can't complete all of them by the due date that she was given, what would be the best thing for Sarah to do and why?<br><br>A. Sarah should give up since she can't finish all of the assignments by the due date.<br>B. Sarah should do all that she can by the due date and ask her boss for a time extension for the rest of the work.<br>C. She should turn in what she could get finished and hope that her boss doesn't notice.<br>Dividing the students up into groups and let them choice their answer and telling why they chose their answer would be a great example of life and career issues.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <title>Learning and Innovative Skills</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In this section students are expected to be able to communicate their idea effectively. Students are expected to think creatively, work creatively with others, and implement innovations.<br>For Example:<br>Standard:</div><ul><li>Develop, implement and communicate new ideas to others effectively. Given the standard students can use and online organizational tool to present their ideas on a given topic to the class. </li><li>A sample topic for elementary students could be:</li><li>Using an online web organizational tool, students must tell why using the computer is important. Students will have to find their own tool via the internet and tell why using a computer is so important. This will give students practice with organizing their ideas and effectively communication them in writing and presenting them. </li></ul><div><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In this section students are expected to know how to use online resources and what purposes online resources are intended for. Also, in this section students should know what legal issues can be taken from misuse of online resources. Properly knowing how to access online resources and using them in a timely manner an important workforce skill.<br><br>For example:<br>&nbsp;Standard:</div><ul><li>&nbsp; Manage the flow of information from a wide variety of source.</li></ul><div>Students could be given a time limit to find a valuable online resource to properly present information to the class.<br><br>For Example:<br>In an elementary setting students could have to find a way to talk to their pens pals online with a web resource. Students would have to create a membership and find a website in an allotted amount of time.</div>]]></description>
