Today I have learned how the social legacy play an important role in defining yourself and your identity. It's interesting that a group of people independent from each other placed in 2 separated environments develops a culture that almost is similar to each other.

It was interesting and terrifying hearing about the history of slavery.

And scaring to see, how much slavering there still is in the world. And also how difficult it is to gather a people with such a history.

A good learning is smile to the world, and the world smiles back. Especially in meeting the locals at the market today. Thank you for a nice day🙃

My reflections on today's focus are particularly directed towards the societal consequences created by Guadeloupe's colonial history, marked by the abuse of people as slaves and the slave trade. A prehistory that today can be experienced by the colored population as structural racism with discrimination based on race in contemporary Guadeloupe. Here, I am particularly focused on the fact that structural racism is a part of the collective consciousness in both society and political agendas. Conflicting interests are evident and obvious, should one choose to acknowledge and recognize the challenges it poses for the development of society, communities, and individual cultural awareness.

The prehistory lives on in each person with an inherited or learned habitus, where individuals may experience limitations based on race or skin color. This cultural legacy persists if society does not dare to address those parts of the past that pose challenges for a shared development towards a society that treats everyone equally, regardless of race, skin color, and historical position.

Today was a day for very strong emotions.

It’s extremely sad to enter a museum and once again confront the sad reality that my ancestors were the ones who most traded slaves in history…

It is also extremely painful to see references to how human beings were treated, what they have been through and the resilience they had to endure all the pain.

One of the most significant lessons taken from the visit was the reference to the fact that even living in a so call modern society, slavery still exists and in a huge number although in different forms.

From these days in Guadeloupe and from this visit to the museum, I could once more understand that no matter what difficulties you go through in life, you should always smile and try to enjoy what is given to you. The facts that the visit ends with very lively and enjoyable music and the very colourful colours people in Guadeloupe like wearing are good examples for that.

Revisiting history can often bring to light the worst moments of humanity that still haunt our days.
Astonishment, incomprehension and guilt were some of the feelings that plagued me during my visit to the museum due to what has happened in a moment in history but also happens today, with cases so close to us.
The route of the visit to the museum had very remarkable moments, full of symbolism, but it ended in an unexpected way with a space full of color and rhythm that allowed me to align my firm chakras again to make the transition to the market's variety of traditional products. .
So many contradictions present in such a small world.

The culture of the southern peoples is always vibrant and original. Today I was convinced of this again. Bright colors, lots of handmade items. I am sorry that traditions and the preservation of culture went through the suffering of people, slavery. I'm sorry that slavery still exists. I didn’t even know that there were slaves in Estonia too. This is wildness. I am very grateful to Rita for giving us the opportunity to get acquainted with the Creole culture and admire their originality.

The encounter with the city of Pointe-à-Pitre has been an inspiring visit. The city clearly showcases its history and culture. Daring to reveal the whole truth about one's own culture and history is crucial for learning and understanding. A meeting with a city that has opened my eyes to the importance of showing our students how to approach other cultures with open and positive communication.

The encounter with the city has provided food for thought on the relationship between different ethnic groups and their origins—a past we cannot change. However, we can ensure that we, and thus our children, understand the importance of engaging in giving to others, even those who may not immediately resemble us.

The most powerful impression of the day is a magical, mighty Nature’s tree, bearing the cultural tokens and religious symbols slaves couldn’t take on their voyage, which depicts all slavery tragedy.
“Before they were loaded onto ships, captives were made to circle the “Tree of Forgetfulness”, a ritual that would force them into an artificial state of consciousness to make them forget their past lives...”
