Erikson’s first psychosocial crisis happens during the first year or your life which is Trust vs. Mistrust. When we are born we have no idea how to live in the world. We rely on our caregivers. Who teach us the ways of life and care for us. If the child recognizes routine and reliable care their trust will grow which will lead to the feeling of safety even when feeling threatened. When the fear of crisis is upcoming the hope for the child is that the parent will be a source of support. If they fail to do that it will lead them to fear and or mistrust. With other people around them it can lead to anxiety, insecurities and loss of confidence in the world around them or their abilities of events. “Consistent with Erikson's views on the importance of trust, research by Bowlby and Ainsworth has outlined how the quality of the early experience of attachment can affect
relationships with others in later life.”  --Erikson’s (1959) theory of psychosocial development.
