The genre of this book is historical fiction. The book is based on a true story in history but is fiction as some events have been written historically accurate whereas some have been changed slightly to appeal to readers.

Some craft moves used in "The Tattooist of Auschwitz" are external and internal conflicts.

External Conflicts:

Being a historical fiction book, this novel is based on true historical events that take place over the years of 1942-1945 when the Second World War was ongoing. An external conflict that occurs in this novel is the war between Germany and the Allies. It was a man vs man external conflict.

Internal Conflicts:

Internal conflicts shown in the novel was the man vs self conflict between Lale and his mind. Lale, throughout the book was very opinionated on the German soldiers. He often wanted to speak his mind, despite the fact he could not as it would likely result in his death. The internal conflict is shown by him reluctantly deciding he should keep his mouth shut and not speak out against the officers who were holding him captive in Auschwitz.

The 2 main themes of this novel are "The harsh and true realities of the lives of people captive in Auschwitz/Birkenau" and "Through hardships love can still be found". The book talks about the horrible mistreatment and living conditions of those locked in the concentration camps and how Lale and Gita fell in love with eachother despite the unfortunate circumstances of their lives at that time.

This novel has many different settings but the general setting of the book is Europe in 1942-1945, the last 3 years of the Second World War. The majority of the book takes place in the concentration camps of Auschwitz and Birkenau in Poland.

A major historical connection in this book is WW2 as the novel takes place during the years the war was active and the main characters, Lale and Gita, are greatly affected by the war. They are affected by the war because they were prisoners of war.

The man in the white coat releases her face and walks away."

I like this line because it's the first time they ever meet.

"Later that night as they walk back to Birkenau, Lale says quietly, 'I'll take your offer of paper and pencil, if you don't mind. Her number is 34902.'"

I Like this line because Lale has decided that he'd like to talk to Gita who is prisoner 34902

"Clearly Lale is not going to move, or is incapable of moving, so Gita walks to him. Knealing down in front of him, she says, 'Incase you didn't hear me when we left Birkenau, I love you.'

'Will you marry me?' he says.

'Yes, I will.'"

I like this line because it was when they reunited after getting out of the concentration camp and the first thing Lale says to Gita is "Will you marry me".
