Regarding the recent presidential election, This is a pretty viable article right now. Regardless of how we feel about the election it is not our job to fuel the fear in our students growing brains, but rather focus on the material within the classroom.

This topic is something that will be used each and every day regardless of the environment of the classroom. I had already learned about conditioning in my psych class, but choice theory was a completely new facet that has made me think different about diffusing tense situations of any sort. The five elements of choice theory break down and build a bridge that unifies what is real and what is perceived or felt to be real by the outside. It is important to know all values of each student in the class room to look deeper in to their quality world.

Before this class, I had thought that the motto's of our school systems were something kind of cheesy and ultimately useless in the setting of academia. Upon learning about school culture, there are specific routines and policies to give students the most comfortable learning environment for them (in a school with a strong physical plant especially). The physical plant says a lot about the school before even seeing the environment in person. Aside from that, creating a comfortable environment can be tied to the quality world talked about in classroom management. Simply creating a 'Get to know you' sheet for the first day of class really helps you get a better idea on whom you will be working with for an entire year, and allows the teacher to be able to connect personally with the students within the academic setting as well as in a social setting outside of class.

This was a subject within the class that initially I found to be an extremely terrifying and large thing to get done by the end of the semester. As time has progressed our work as a group in the edTPA is coming along, Though I cannot say that I can fully understand all of the facets completely by memory. The best way I can describe this magical concept is basically a lesson plan on steroids. Looking at each individual function regarding academic language, both macro and micro planning, making everything meaningful to all students, giving assessments (both summative and formative) that actually assist the student to show what they have learned either in one class or a number of classes. This system also helps immensely when assessing certain students who may need extra attention (IEP or 504) and to thoroughly accommodate them for whatever obstacle they need to overcome. There are many things to be wary of, personally what I found to be the most difficult actually in class using my edTPA lesson plan was trying to explain things without using the academic languages students have not yet learned.

This unit taught the class somethings that in some ways seem to be common sense, but in reality are actually quite in depth in regards to special education, dealing with 'happy little challenges'. This unit addressed a variety of disabilities, primarily consisting of the ability we will all need as teachers to deal with said disorders within the classroom. Each disorder requires a specific form of attention constantly within the classroom. For example, a student with an auditory processing disorder may need an sheet of the lecture in class to better understand the content. Visual disorders may require extended amount of one on one interractions and possibly a recording of the lecture because taking notes is a bit different for them. ADHD students may need some extra help when it comes to focus in the classroom. They do require us as the teachers to be more attentive to them, they are often distracted and are not the most focused students in the class. Autism spectrum disorder is more of a social disorder than anything. Teachers need to make the student feel as comfortable as possible when in the classroom, and give them a safe space when they need it.

Underfunded Schools

This picture can reign true in a variety of levels of education. Specifically in the public schools, regardless of the amount of funding they get there will still be more and more students that come to that school. More often than not, the school is funded based off of the class of the local place that it resides in. This is why we have inner city schools typically have a lesser amount of funding than say, a rich suburb. As a result, students miss out on getting a quality education simply because the school cannot afford the tools and teachers to supply it for them.

Diversity and Consciousness

This piece is something that I find to be relevant given the outcome of the recent election. I have heard stories of hijab being ripped off of people heads during schools, people shouting obscenities in the halls towards minorities and LGBTQ students. It absolutely breaks my heart to see such bigotry within our schools for the majority in my mind has been fueled or learned by the parents of students. This is a picture that was often found in my schools when I was growing up, and it does symbolize a generic unity between the diversity of the student body. However, many schools tend to overlook the importance of the topic. I feel now is as good of a time as any to help students become more conscious of every individual facet of diversity and acceptance possible.
