The first passage I chose was on page 79, it says, "Continuity, Elliot. Remember it. Think of what our name means. Guardians: guards, protectors, custodians. What do guardians do? They defend. They block. They resist. They keep things in their place. That's what we do: We keep people in their place. If they forget their place we remind them of it, and if they try to leave it... Gareth didn't need to finish the sentence. This passage is important because Elliot is listening to what the guardians are telling him what they do and what he will do when he becomes a guardian.

The second passage I chose was on pages 89 and 90, it says, "The alternative was hanging around the mall on his own all morning, as he usually did. And although this kid, Ben, was one of the last people on earth he could afford to be seen with, at the moment there was no one around; and if they went back to his house, nobody was going to see them... Get yourself out of here. This passage is important because he knew if he was seen with Ben, he would not become a guardian and also be beat up a lot because he was supposed to be a guardian but he was hanging around a kid on their hit list.

1.Elliot: polite: Elliot is polite by how he talks to Ben's mom very nicely and tried his best not to tell Ben that he couldn't have Ben hang around him in school. The text evidence is on page 98, "How do I say it? Elliot thought. How do I say, "Look, it's nothing personal, and your photos are amazing, but I don't want you near me at school because you'll destroy the Elliot I've just put so much effort into inventing"?" He is very polite by not saying that to his face and trying to come up with the best thing he could possibly think of to say so he doesn't hurt Ben's feelings.

2.Ben: open: Ben is open by how when he is talking to Elliot he just starts to spill out all of these emotions about his dad and his mom like when his dad died and he felt so bad about wanting him to leave and Elliot thought wow I would never share anything like that with anyone. The text evidence is on page 95, "That was my mom. He was . . . pretty mad at her about that. Didn't want me to have it. I heard them arguing once. Him saying I was turning into too much of a mama's boy. That I was growing up in to be a sissy, a wimp, not real man material. All because I didn't want to go and get beaten up by someone wearing a stupid pair of gloves.". This shows that Ben is open by how he is spilling out stuff about his family even though he doesn't even know who Elliot is and Elliot is basically a random boy from school.

3. Ben's mom: friendly: Ben's mom is friendly by how she talks to Elliot and the words she uses because she seems like a mom who doesn't usually gets visiters by how she's talking to Elliot with a kind surprised voice. Text evidence is on page 91, " It's wonderful to meet you." He had the impression that she had to restrain herself from hugging him. Why on earth was it wonderful to meet him? She didn't even know who he was.". This is evidence that she is friendly by how she is very nice by how she greets him and is also very nice and opening.
