In this 17th-18th century, William Shakespeare's work is very common. However, his plays are more for entertainment.

Jonathan Edwards wrote Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God. Edward's work combines imagery of hell with the observation of the world and citations of the scripture. The Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God is his most famous written work in which he provides a look into the theology of the Great Awakening. 

The Generall Historie of Virginia New- England, and the Summer Isles is a book written by John Smith. This book is either the earliest or one of the earliest histories of the territory administered by the London Company.

Of Plymouth Plantation was written over the years of 1630-1651 by William Bradford. It is regarded as the most authoritative account of the Pilgrims and the early years of the colony which they founded. The journal describes the story of the Pilgrims from 1608, when they settled in the Dutch Republic. The boy ends with a list of Mayflower passengers and what happened to them which was written in 1651.

A group of young girls were assumed to be possessed by the devil and accused other local women of practicing witchcraft.  More than 200 people were accused of the practice and 20 of those 200 were executed. In the end, the colony came to the conclusion that the trials were a mistake.

He was an Anglican writer of very popular devotional theology. Adams also praised for mastery of English language.

Joseph Alleine ( 1634-1668):
He was a Presbyterian and wrote An Alarm to the Unconverted. This book was a great example of Puritan evangelism.

John Ball (1585-1640)
Similarly to Joseph Alleine, he was also a Presbyterian and wrote A Treatise of the Covenant of Grace.

They believed that the Anglican Church "needed to be purified of the influence of the Catholic religious faith." The Puritans lived based on the belief that wanted them to live according to the Scriptures. In this way, they were to set examples who those who still lived in Englsih to change their sinful ways.

By getting rid of the Catholic practices, they could become pure. "Puritan" was used to describe members of the Church of England who wanted to purify it of all semblances to the Roman Catholic Church. Their intentions were to just to get back the Church's original purity and to not destroy or be separated from it.
