8 secrets of success - Richard St. John

I have chosen that speech because the heading sounds interesting and i wanted to find out what the secret of success is.

The main topic of this speech is the answer of 8 different people to the question how they became successful.
All of them are members of TED and inspire people all over the world.

Some years ago Richard met a high school student froma poor family who wanted to make something of her life. At that time Richard was not able to give an answer to her question: “what leads to success?” Seven years later he had the answer for the girls question after interviewing 500 successful TEDsters.
In his opinion there are 8 points which really lead tosuccess.

1) be motivated by passion not by money
2) work hard, nothing comes easily and have fun
3) put your nose down in something and get damn goodat it, practice a lot
4) focus yourself on one thing and be persistent
5) push yourself physically and mentally
6) fight against your self doubts
7) do it for your privilege
8) have an idea - a simple one is enough

Richard St. John uses a lot of body language and speaks directly to the audience. He keeps it short and simple so his speech is focosed on the main questions. After 3 minutes of listening to his presentation, you have a lotof new information and phrases you keep thinkingabout.

I really liked his talk and enjoyed watching it. There is a lot of information I have not heard before and so I couldlearn some new voc. too.

At the beginning he tells the listeners some basic things like how important sleep is and he describes the circadianen rhythm, wich dictates our energy level throughout the day. Later he informs us about the 3 different states of sleep: light sleep, rapèd eye moving, deep sleep
At the end he tells that he met Dr. Dmitry Grashchenko from Harvard Medical School who found a method to make sleep more efficient. He says that if you play certain sounds at the right time while sleeping you can also improve your next-day memory performance.

The speaker has a pleasant, calm voice. At the beginning of his speech he starts with a question to get everybody's attention. That's a very good technique. He also talks about personal experiences which make the listeners realise that it's a topic which he is really interested in and that he has already spent a lot of time to research for answers or doing experiments.

I enjoyed watching this TED talk because firstly it is a topic that effects everyone and socondly as I mentioned at the beginning I'm going to write my Thesis about sleep.
I think the methode of Dr. Demiry Grashchenko sounds quite strange and I can't imagine how this whole thing should work but I would like to try it if I had the chance.

You have one life. Live it! - Alina Kruschitz

Report

You have one life. Live it!

Sherry McConkey

I chose this TED Talk topic because I believe in the power of life. I believe in our inside strength. I am a positive human. I try to look at the world with positive things. I put the negatives things away. I believe in the positive energy. I think we shouldn’t see the world negative. We should see the positive things in the world and we have one life and we should live it!

The summary

One day Sherry’s phone rung and someone told her that Shane was dead. She was shocked. Sherry left South Africa when she was 21 to go travel the world. She met her love of her life and her soul mate Shane. He was one of the most influential skiers in the world. He was ski movie stat and he did insane skiing tricks like combining skiing with base jumping in wing suiting. Sherry and Shane married in 2004. They had a daughter Ella. On March 26. 2009 Shane and his best friends JT Holmes were filming a wingsuit ski base jump in Italy. He made a backflip. Suddenly he pulled down of his skis. Shane had fallen. Sherry’s life changed forever. All she wanted to do was run. She wanted to leave Tahoe. She wanted to go find a normal life. She wanted to escape the trauma and the pain. Sherry was angry but one day she thought that she had no right being angry. She got to live on this beautiful world. she had beautiful people who she loved, and she had a great daughter who gave her energy. She reminded herself that she chose this lifestyle. Sherry learned from Shane because he was full of positive energy. One day Shane told Sherry if she had the courage herself into things that she loved. Now Sherry thought that anything is possible. After Shane’s death Sherry created a group of wonderful friends and they started the Shane McConkey foundation. They donated $250,000. They also started the Shane McConkey eco-challenge a competition for kids for schools nationwide to learn about an implement environmental change. Sherry made a documentary about her husband. Sherry said that after his death she learned how to endure heartache overcome and she became a bigger version of her. Her last sentence was “Being happy is not dependent on my circumstance pursuing passion and living life really living life is a courageous choice I can make every day.

The speaker was very convincing. She spoke about herself and about her lifestyle. She didn’t use props. Her voice was silent because her story was real, and she spoke carefully about her story. She often looked on the floor and she didn’t make eye contact with the audience. Sometimes she made a joke, but she told her story very seriously. It was hard to speak about her story.

In my opinion Sherry is a very strong person because she tells about her private story to a lot of people. I loved to watch this video because she has a settle voice. After this video she gives motivation to the audience that they should live their life and that they should do what they want. I have respect for her that she looks in her future without her husband. I enjoyed this video. I learned from the video that I should be positive and I should have the courage to live my life like I want.

My motto is

live it,

love it

or change it.
