I was volunteering in my sons class at Swaney, and I just enjoyed it. I knew I needed to go back to school after my wife and after that day that's what I decided.

What advice can you give me to better prepare me for the teaching profession?

Experiences. Get experiences, you'll learn a lot from people you see both good and bad and put your own spin on it.

What are some of the challenges I will face as a new teacher?

The first year will come at you so fast, from the copy machine to the school initiative. You just survive the first year then take those questions and answer them in your second year.

What are the rewards in teaching?

Sometimes the days just stink, but the year is always worth it. Sometime kids who were the biggest pain in the rump are the ones who will find you at football games. Sometimes you don't see the reward until later.

Do what you need to do. If someone emails you, email them back. If you have after school duties, be there.

What changes, if any, would you make to the educational system?

I would like to see grading not be so numbers driven. With a math class, it doesn't matter to me if a kid gets long division on day 4 or day 14 just as long as they get it. I look at this as experienceable practice.

If you could choose another career field, would you?

I would not, after being here almost 20 years this is my home.
