         <description><![CDATA[<div>In 1848, at age 25, Phineas Gage was a foreman of a crew who cut railroads. He is remembered for surviving his traumatic brain injury. On September 13th, a tampering iron that was 43 inches long and 1.25 inches in diameter and weighing almost 14 pounds shot upward and penetrated Gage's cheek, and tore through his brain and exited out of the back of his skull.
