Students will be encouraged to write online in a journal format either as homework or as a summary of the week at the end of class once a week. This will enable them to use their skills in a professional format and teach them how they can use their knowledge and share it with others. http://sydneyredigan.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/Constructivism-and-English-Language-Arts.pdf

Constructivism means that a teacher takes into account what students already know and then allows for them to take that knowledge and make something out of it. In an English class, because there is a lot of reading in books at home and during class, there is time set apart for purely absorbing content and information. As a teacher, I then have the responsibility to allow students to use their knowledge and create something out of it. Rather than having students write essays everyday, there are a lot of activities that emphasize discussion and analyzing the text in different and new ways.

This activity allows students to use knowledge and apply it to a controversial topic. By allowing students time to prepare thoughts with pieces of argument to support their claims, they are able to see a topic from multiple sides and make an informed decision based off of a controversy.
https://serc.carleton.edu/sp/library/sac/index.html

This activity allows students to think deeply about one question and to have a facilitate discussion about it. Their thoughts, and ideas about this questions are open-ended and there are no right nor wrong answers. It is merely a safe space for students to put their ideas to work in answering a thought-provoking question.
https://www.luc.edu/media/lucedu/cpell/teacherpresentation/Constructivist_Approach_HSD_PD_Vallone.pdf

This activity requires the work of the students to ask questions about the text, and to highlight important key phrases. Students are invited to work individually then then to share with the class the things that they found in the text while they did their close reading. This reciprocal teaching allows for students to share insights on what they learn and what they feel is most important for their peers to learn from the text as well. http://www.ascd.org/publications/books/118045/chapters/The-Fab-Four@-Reciprocal-Teaching-Strategies.aspx
