Natural Selection is one of the basic mechanisms of evolution, along with evolution by natural selection is relatively simple but often misunderstood. to find out it works, imagine a population of beetles.

1. there is a variation in traits: for example, some beetle are green and some are brown.

2. There is a differential reproduction: since the environment can't support unlimited population growth, not all individuals get to reproduce to their full potential. for example green beetles tend to get eaten by birds and they don't have the chance to reproduce as often as the brown beetles do.

3. There is heredity: The surviving brown beetle have brown baby beetles because this trait has a genetic basis.

4. The End Result: the more advantageous trait, brown coloration, which allows the beetles to have more offspring, becomes more common in the population. if this process continues, eventually, all individuals in the population will be brown.

basically saying for a example of beetle of colors Green and Brown the bird are in favor of the green beetles and eat them and since they are the targeted beetles they don't have as much time as the brown beetles do to reproduce so the number of green beetles slowly decreases until they do not exist anymore and the brown beetles are the only ones left and they do not have the traits of the green beetle to carry the color over to future generation. and they used color as a example it could be as complex as the shape of the beak of a bird or the paw size of a wolf. evolution changes how everything looks.

Charles Robert Darwin was born February 12, 1809 and lived to April 19, 1882. He was the Naturalist and Biologist known for his theory of evolution and the process of Natural selection. In 1858, after years of his scientific investigation around the world, Darwin publicly introduced his revolutionary theory of evolution in a letter read at a meeting of the linnean society. On November 24, 1859, he published a detailed explanation of is theory in his best-known work, On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection

Basically what that is saying is that the organisms that better adapt them self to the environment around them thrive and reproduce more often and the population of the organism increases unlike the organism that is having issues adapting the the change in climate or anything like that and then the start dying off and can not reproduce fast enough to keep living and they slowly disappear.
