The Obama Administration creates the policy Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals which helps young people who are undocumented immigrants that grew up in America to postpone deportation by being allowed to work. They can re-apply every two years but need to stay within proper legal status and on course with getting an official citizenship. This policy wasn't just created for Mexican immigrants but the majority of recipients were from Mexico.

Similar to DACA, DAPA is for parents who have children who are U.S. citizens. This policy allowed for undocumented immigrants to avoid deportation and have a 3 year work permit. For them to be qualified for DAPA, they must meet specific requirements. Such as, being in America at the time of their application, cannot be convicted of breaking any law, and they must pay all of their taxes. This was extremely vital for Mexican immigrants who had legally had children who are natural born citizens and continue to stay with them. Also, to allow parents to work despite their status. Much like DACA, this policy was mainly utilized by Mexican immigrants who wanted to keep their family together.

During the entirety of Trump's campaign, he quickly became known for his demands of deporting specifically Mexican immigrants. He also ran off the idea that he was going to "build a wall" across the border of Mexico and America, while making Mexico pay for it rather than American taxpayers. His campaign and election perpetuated a significant amount of hate toward Mexican immigrants and even Mexican American citizens.

This policy made it so that migrants who didn't undergo the proper "inspection" before crossing the border be detained. Due to this, many of the detained migrants were separated from their families and children.

Biden began his presidential term with dismantling many of the Trump Administration Immigration policies. Many of the policies used to control Mexican migration. He fully scrapped the Migrant Protection Protocols but kept the Title 42 instated due to Covid-19 still being a prevalent issue. President Biden also worked to bring DACA back to full force. Also, the Mexican migrant family separation due to the "Zero Tolerance Policy," Biden worked to reconnect these family members.

Trump's first few official acts as President began with executing these mass deportations that he campaigned on. He also immediately shutdown the CBP One App and canceled the appointments for migrants in Mexico leaving people stranded and confused. Re-established the "Remain in Mexico" Policy once again leaving migrants in Mexico unsure if they will be able to ever enter. Most famously the Trump administration has been discussing the idea of removing the 14th Amendment which is the right to American citizenship by birthright.
