This video is about how easy it is to take a picture and think there may be a ghostly image in it. Dallas Pattee claims to have lived in a haunted house growing up. Her doctor furthered her belief by looking at a photo she had and said there's a ghost and if science can't explain it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. He is a perfect example of appeal to authority as well as using the unexplained for a reason for belief. Again James applies critical thinking to the art of photography and the results are definitely not of a supernatural nature.

In the early seventies Uri Geller was a psychic who became very popular by bending spoons with mental powers. He basically used the theory if you want something hard enough you can make it so just by wanting it. Uri was using mystical energy to bend the spoons and the effect is visually stunning. Most people observing this trick believe the metal is bending. James Randi was asked to join Uri on the Tonight Show. James had the show provide the props for Uri and would not let any of Uri's staff near them. All of the sudden Uri could not do any of the mystical things he always seemed to do on other shows.

This website is the James Randi Educational Foundation. It was created to help "encourage critical questions and seek unbiased, fact-based answers". In 1996 the foundation was started when James offered 1,000.00 to anyone who could prove their psychic powers were real. This total eventually grew to 1,000,000.00. James loved using critical thinking to debunk frauds. In 2015 the foundation finally stopped offering the reward as no one had claimed it.

An Honest Liar. This is the title of a documentary that has been created about James Randi. It is about the history of his life and how he became a renown skeptic. He started out as a magician but then realised there were people out there willing to use the art of magic to take money from people. He staged many illusions that fooled scientists to demonstrate how important evidence is. James was determined to expose the psychics and mediums who were taking advantage of people who have emotional connections to lost loved ones.

This is a poster from the seventies that was used to promote "The Amazing Randi's" stage show. It caused quite a stir amongst Randi's fans. Randi offered a quarter to anyone who could find Harry Houdini in the poster. This was quite clever as it raised interest in his shows. Many people have not found Houdini in the picture, therefore it is unexplained as they cannot explain it yet. I will provide a small hint, you are actually looking for the name of Harry Houdini and yes it is there!!

In 1973-1974 James Randi joined Alice Cooper on his Billion Dollar Babies tour. Randi used his abilities as a magician to help Alice with special effects. The effects Randi created were unexplained to some. People at the time may have believed in some of the effects because they do not know how they were created. Randi played the mad dentist during the show as well as the executioner who beheads Alice Cooper. Needless to say because of Randi's craft the show was unforgettable.

This image describes James Randi perfectly. He became a magician simply because he performs the art flawlessly. He is not in it to rip people off. He acknowledges magic is not unexplained or caused from some mystical energy. James has worked very hard at exposing religious figures, psychics and other types of people that use the art to take money from people under false pretenses.

I remember in the mid eighties when James Randi exposed faith healer Peter Popoff as a fraud. Peter used agenticity and emotional connections to convince people he had healed them through divine powers. People who are sick, are usually scared and want to try different things to try to heal themselves. Peter made millions of dollars from stealing from sick people. James used critical thinking and brought a radio scanner to a show. He intercepted transmissions between Peter and his wife. She was telling him through a transmitter in his ear who to "heal" as she had the information in hand on almost every person in the audience from a prayer card they were asked to fill out before coming in.

This site provides links to lectures, podcasts, events, and other media forms from skeptics around the globe. The foundation really promotes using critical thinking before deciding whether or not something is real or fake, etc. One of the lecture series that is provided teaches you how to spot dubious claims.
