This was note worthy because it gives students an overview of the important things coming up in the month. This teaches students to be self efficient and plan ahead. I would use this very similar in my classroom by having a calendar with all the important dates, unlike my teacher I would use this each Monday during our morning circle time and take a look at the week as a class.

Reward Wheel

This is the class reward wheel, at the end of each day my partner teacher secretly draws two students at random and if they were on task and had good behavior all day they get to spin, if not she puts their number back and selects another student. I would use something like this to motivate and get students engaged. I would also use this wheel as a behavior tool, for students who may need a behavior intervention.

This is one of my favorite parts of the class. This is a Learning Board, this shows what students are learning, their evidence of learning and the benchmarks. This shows students what they will be doing and what to be prepared for. This is also a great tool for when there are visitors, such as an ESE teacher, principal or other teacher, in the room to see what the class is doing. I would do the same thing in my room where students have daily learning targets, evidence of learning and benchmarks for our lessons.

These are the turn in drawers which are student used tool. For both class periods they have a math, science and make up drawer. The math and science drawer is for to turn in completed work and the Make-Up drawer is for work that is not finished. I would use a system like this to keep track of work that is tuned in and not yet completed. I like the idea of students being in charge of turning in their work and keeping track of what they finished and did not finish.

This is the school wide behavior consequences chart. This stood out to me because it was presented with the rewards, so students had the choice of doing good and getting rewarded or doing bad and getting a consequence. I plan to have a consequences chart hung in my room as well in hope that students will see it and choose a better choice then a not so good one.

This is the basket for the calming area, students go here when they are feeling upset, overwhelmed or angry. Instead of lashing out or letting their feelings take control of them, they get to take a break and go to the calming area for 5 minutes to relax and gather their emotions. I would like to implement a behavior tool like this in my classroom to help students learn healthy ways to cope with feelings and also regulate behaviors when they do get upset.
