I would use something like this to motivate and get students engaged. This is a Learning Board, this shows what students are learning, their evidence of learning and the benchmarks. This shows students what they will be doing and what to be prepared for. This is also a great tool for when there are visitors, such as an ESE teacher, principal or other teacher, in the room to see what the class is doing. For both class periods they have a math, science and make up drawer. The math and science drawer is for to turn in completed work and the Make-Up drawer is for work that is not finished. I would use a system like this to keep track of work that is tuned in and not yet completed. This stood out to me because it was presented with the rewards, so students had the choice of doing good and getting rewarded or doing bad and getting a consequence. Instead of lashing out or letting their feelings take control of them, they get to take a break and go to the calming area for 5 minutes to relax and gather their emotions.
