My brothers teachers noticing my brother struggling academically.

At a young age my brother was always behind compared to his classmates. My parents constantly worried about what to do and how to go about helping him. This forced me to grow up more independently because my brother was the main priority.

My brother getting tested through our county's school district.

Many counselors and doctors said it was just because he was a young boy with a lot of energy, many times brushing off my brothers struggles. This led us to finally get him tested.

We now finally pin pointed why he was struggling and ways to help him.

Going to many school meetings, tutoring, and testing appointments.

One of the few ways he got help was by going to monthly school meetings to check his progress or decline. He also went to weekly tutoring appointments to help him catch up to his classmates.

Seeing him become more insecure about his diagnosis

However, this diagnosis left my brother feeling as though he was different from his classmates in a negative way. He started to believe his diagnosis defined him.

Working with on homework and assignments.

I would often help my brother with assignments or homework worksheets. This would sometimes take him longer to do than others. He often got frustrated and defeated that he couldn't get it.

Learning that I have a passion for helping others with disabilities.

Through this difficult process, it created a passion for me for helping others. Either academically, physically, or mentally.

Having to get extra help outside the classroom
