8. Explain and give an example of Transformative Power.
Transformation power is changing someone's mindset. An example would be a young patient went back to the hospital where he received care to thank and show appreciation to the nurses who cared for him during his illness. He felt that he was not strong enough to make it through his treatment but the nurses stepped in and encouraged him in ways he will be forever grateful for. The nurses had the ability to positively influence the patient's decisions and thoughts during his treatment which resulted in a positive outcome.
3. Recognizing warning signs is crucial and even more crucial on intermediate care units where automated telemetry is not routinely used. Educators have not attended sufficiently to the difference between being able to recognize a medical problem, being able to document it and being able to present a defensible case that will get an appropriate physician's response. Doing well in one aspect does not guarantee success in the other two. Nurses talked about the importance of gaining credibility with physicians, so that a correct early warning would increase the likelihood that the physicians would take their vague early concern more seriously in the future. Nurse- physician relationships are extremely important while caring for a patient.
