At this time Mexico had got their independence from Spain and the government controlled part of Texas that the american settlers wanted so they became citizens. The american settlers had growing tensions with the people that already lived in mexico, the Tejanos . The problem started when the american settlers that were used to governing themselves didn't follow the Mexican laws that they were suppose to follow so that they can live there. Stephen Austin was given the land that the Mexicans owned by his father and went to the government to change some rules because the land was suppose to be his. When the general of Mexico found a letter that he wanted to rebel against the Mexicans he had to fight them. Santa Ana the general sent an army to Texas to fight the settler that had small groups of men that were fighting. At the end of the 13th day of fighting in the Alamo all but 5 Texans were lying dead and the battler was won for the Texans. when Texas won it's independence it was a free nation, it had a army, navy, and elected a president. soon people didn't want be their own nation they wanted to part of America because they were american settlers. soon Texas became apart of america.
