The Hate U Give
Starr the main character thinks the way police officers treat African Americans is not right. One example of this is, "Officer One-Fifteen yells at me pointing the same gun he killed my friend with." (24) This shows this because as the officer was walking back to his patrol car and Khalil moves to ask Starr if she is okay and while doing this he gets shot and killed. Another example could be with her friend when she was little Natasha who was killed when playing with a fire hydrant.

Often, his dialogue refers to a sort of social caste, Alphas and Betas being the highest, Gammas, Deltas, and Epsilons being the lowest. They work much harder than we do, because they're so frightfully clever. I'm really awfully glad I'm a Beta, because I don't work so hard. And then we are much better than the Gammas ans Deltas.

“Brown people From all brown tribes, Will burn skyscrapers and steeples. They’ll speak Spanish and carry guns and knives. Sherman can’t you see that immigration.” pg 21. Sherman lives in a mostly African neighbor hood and its rates of crime and other bad things is awfully high, he himself is a Indian, and is not looked down upon race wise as much as the African Americans, but still is not seen as the 'ideal race'. Growing up as a Indian wasn't the best with healthcare and such, seeing as they weren't taken care as well as a white person may be.
