Thomas Paine was an English-born American political activist, philosopher, and a rebel. When Thomas Paine was 13 years old, he began work with his father as a corset maker and then attempted multiple other jobs unsuccessfully, finally becoming an officer of the excise. Maybe doing all these radical jobs was the reason he became a very influential thinker in the states (colonies).

Thomas Paine wrote 2 very important and influential pamphlets in the time of the revolutionary war. They were Common Sense (1776) and The American Crisis (1776-1783). Practically every rebel read the famous pamphlet Common Sense. His ideas definitely proposed Enlightenment ideals of human rights.

Affecting the Government (5 Sentence Paragraph)

I think Thomas Paine affected the government with his radical ideas and propositions. His ideas were mainly based off of breaking away from England and declaring independence. I also think part of the reason why Thomas Paine was so radical was because he was very unsuccessful with jobs in England, so he wanted to have new chances in America. This is why I think Thomas Paine was very influential in the Enlightenment era.
