Why do you think these violations occur?

I think they occur because of pressure and the convenience. With the stress of needing to pass classes or to be a top student, it further pushes them to violate. Some may not understand the copyright laws or proper citations making it easier to break these commandments. Or simply going with the reasoning, that "everyone does it".

What do you think could be done to reduce or eliminate such unethical behavior?

Although plagiarism detection tools are not the best, they can help flag down potential work that contains plagiarized materials. Just like our school, have a strong culture of academic integrity. Often times, people will continue if there are no consequences for their actions. Providing more resources such as tutoring and workshops, that reduce the pressures that leads to students cutting corners. And to also provide education on digital ethics, copyright, and plagiarism.
