This house is not the best kept secret in town but it's on of the finest designs from Puig I cadafalch.
This contemporary building has a magnificient balcony and the use of iron is present at many parts of the facade, creating fanciful shapes.
Handcarved windows and terraces helps creating a beautifull view.
There are many symbols related with nature and a the use of asymmetry on the building is hard to miss.

Alella is a beautiful town close to Barcelona where you can live like in a little village but with the facilities of a big city as Barcelona is only at 15 minutes.

There’s a place I used to go when I live there: the vineyards. These fields, full of nature and calm, are very quaint and they are also the identity of the town due to the wine is the typical product.

You can walk across the fields on a gravel path. You’ve a good view of the sea from there. It helps to the weather to be mild and nice during all the year. It’s a place where some people go for a walk with their dogs as I used to do. They can run free and safe while they try to follow the trail of some rabbits or any kind of little animals that live hidden there.

Hidden treasures off the beaten track in Mataró

Now it’s becoming more and more popular to see tourists in Mataró visiting all kind of modernist buildings. They go around with their audio guide following a beforehand designed tour. But what about the real Mataró? Where can we find it?

This tip goes for those who love art. Forget about Puig i Cadafalch, the famous architect. There’s a hidden building made by Antoni Gaudí in the city centre called Nau Gaudí containing the fabulous Bassat art collection. It is considered to be a good of cultural interest for its architectural value.

And for those who love history I totally recommend visiting Torre Llauder. It’s a Roman villa built in the 1st century BC also considered a good of cultural interest. This archaeological site is very well-preserved and restored.

It is completely free to visit both monuments, so what are we waiting for to step off the beaten track?

Laia Crestemayer

Historic viewpoint from the Oldtown of Mataró

The place that I have chosen isn't really off the beaten tracks, but a special viewpoint that I like to contempt when I walk into the old town of Mataró. It’s the meeting point between Barcelona Street, St. Cristòfol Street and Baixada de les Escaletes.
Yes, it’s not a lonely space. Nevertheless people pass through this vibrant crossroads because of the shopping. The slope to the sea gives you an interesting and focused view to the sea. Moreover, if you know that there was once here a gate in Roman times, it makes you realize that the square, the streets were no put here at random. Barcelona Street follows the line of the ancient wall (a little bit curved). It must have been one of the key connections of Iluro with the sea to the inhabitants. The hill offered physical security, was more effective and difficulty to the invaders and the wall, now hidden inside the building. Sometimes I imagine someone looking out from a tower watching over if the boats are coming are friends or not, or the fishermen carrying their bags plenty of fish upward, under a burning sun.
The Peixateria Square has a kind of telluric ambiance for me. Maybe in the early morning is when you feel more vividly the past for the stones and the path and tracks that have become our streets today.
For while buildings may stand for 100 years, beaten or hidden tracks may last thousands.. And all these footprints talk together in the quiet and calm night and grip me.

3 Kms from Mataró, there is an amazing pedestrian adventure. A pleasant and delightul walk where you can see the majesty of Mataró, a really spectacular view of the city and its coast.

It's a perfect activity for a Sunday morning, a time off with the family. A 3 kilometre-path, about two hours of walking in a pleasant way, going through a sort of private and serene forest.

You have to climb up only two hundred and fifty metres, but there is a reward at the end because La Montaña de La Cruz is an impressive balcony to the Maresme, a pure location absolutely off the beaten track.
