As mentioned in the zoom, having a leader who was interested in developing evidence-based approaches is so important – if the leader is not engaged, neither will the staff be. 
My role was created to encourage continual monitoring and evaluation of projects and scope out evidence prior to the decision making and implementation of projects. 
From my experience over the last month, being new to the role; people have to want to be engaged with research and insight. Initially the challenges which I have faced is that research and insight has been ‘optional’ in the past, and some people are struggling giving that responsibility over. However, overall, there has been a largely positive response with senior staff explaining that they underestimated how badly a R&I role was needed in the organisation.
