2. Discuss the issues faced in Sarawak traditional music and dance how music and dance as an intangible cultural heritage could be prepared.

Sherlin
-Issues that faced in Sarawak traditional music and dance is most of the community especially new generation tend to be forget about it. This issue might be serious especially there a lot of influence from the outside especially from western or another culture/country. From this traditional music and dance should be preserved and expose more same with any modern genre music and dance.
- Music and dance could be prepared by continuing the practice that past from generation. Start with people who have knowledge about it and past it down to new generation and by creating an association and facilities to discuss and conduct this practice to the new generation. As for this, it can be prepared more better

Abel
- The common issue that faced not only in Sarawak but also everywhere is losing interest in traditional stuff include music and dance. This is because most of them especially the younger generation are not into the culture because there are too many new stuff to explore and that made them lost into another nation's culture.
- There are many way on how we can face this issue. One of it is from the family itself. The parent has to expose their children about traditional music or dance. This can increase their awareness about traditional music and dance. It will indirectly build some passion in them to keep the intangible culture.

- Sarawakians, particularly those in the interior, identify themselves by the name of a place or river or mountain, or by the name of a local chief. Traditional dancing can be another form of folk dance, or sometimes even for ceremonial dance. The term ‘Traditional’ is more frequently used when the emphasis is on the cultural roots of the dance. A Traditional dance will therefore have arisen from a

people’s cultural traditions, for example, the folk dances of indigenous populations of Sarawak.

However, dances that have a ritual origin or purpose are not usually considered to be Traditional dances. These are known as ‘Religious dances’ instead. Traditional dancing is generally more of a

social activity rather than competitive, but it is normally choreographed. Depending on the dance type itself, Traditional dancing can be performed either partnered or solo, and are mainly danced in formation (Nicolla Manning).

Mawaddah
- most of younger generation have limited knowledge about Sarawak traditional music and dances. Interests, internet, performing arts clubs and family background are the independent variable factors to learn and gain knowledge about Sarawak traditional music or dances.
- Music and dance as an intangible cultural heritage could be prepared
i) Government - knowledge(intangible)

Introducing Sarawak cultures to the whole student of Malaysia by future studies focusing on factors that influence the level of awareness towards Sarawak traditional dances, and the contribution of Sarawak’s traditional dances to Malaysia’s cultural and heritage tourism.
ii) Family - traditions(intangible cultural heritage)
Apply and enhanced music or dance in lifestyle to young generations especially Sarawakian. For example, there are several types of Ngajat dance where in terms of the swing of the dance and those who perform the dance is dependent on the purpose of the dance and each of these Ngajat dances carries a certain meaning.

Hanan
- The issues faced by traditional Sarawakian dance is not only in the younger generation not knowing but it is the lack of preservation from governments, authoritative bodies and sometimes even the older generation have lost touch with traditions of their culture.

- How it can be prepared is by teaching traditional Sarawakian dances in schools starting from a young age so that as the students grow older, they'll be able to pass on the knowledge to students younger than them. Of course the education ministry, teachers, parents and schools play a huge role in maintaining these traditions.

Jescy
- The issues faced in Sarawak traditional music and dance is the people lack of appreciation of traditional music and dance. This is because they are influenced by Western culture. They are more attracted to Western culture. They may also think the traditional music and dance are boring and causes them to lose interest in it.

- An intangible cultural heritage could be prepared through organise different activities about traditional music and dance in every region and encourage more residents to participate in the activities.

3. Do you think there's a need to set up a Sarawak traditional music archive? How would you like the archive to be (like online based or having a building with the recordings library?

Abel
- In my opinion, yes. We need to setup a Sarawak Traditional Music Archive. This is because it can be a place where we can look for some resource. There will always be someone that really interested in traditional music especially the tourist. The archive will help a lot of people and at the same time can help to preserve the heritage. I would like to have an online based because it will be easier for to get an access rather than need to look for it manually.
- In my opinion, the archive have to set up for Sarawak music because its helps the future generations of the Sarawakian to know and keep the origin characteristics of the Sarawak music. It can be in both, online and physical facilities.

Sherlin
- In my opinion, it is a need to set up a traditional music archive as it help in preserving and giving chance for it to be expose not only for the local community but also for foreign people. As for me, it should be archived in both way online based and also in a building with recording library. As for online based the traditional music archive can be accessed by anyone at anytime where they can read all about it easily as reference because of the internet is quite large and wide now and accessible. As for the building, it can give the community and people to have a first person experience where they can feel and hear while understanding it.

Hanan
- In my opinion, yes there needs to be an archive for Sarawak Traditional Music both online and offline. This is especially beneficial, not only for preserving this cultural heritage but also for those researching on Sarawak Traditional Music. This gives them easier access without having to go to unreliable sources and have their research be invalid. Online access should be found through library database from educational institutions or in public libraries databases so that students can easily access it without having to sacrifice time to go to a library publicly. Offline access should also be available such as in public libraries where they keep physical copies of the resources.

Mawaddah
- From my point of view, I think there's a need to set up a Sarawak traditional music archive. This could be best for preserving Sarawak's heritage and traditional music for everyone especially the visitor from other country. It helps them to access the resources and guide them to do research.
It would be nice if the archived will be by both online based and having a building with the recordings library. The traditional music archive can be accessed anytime where anyone can access it to be as a references for online based. Meanwhile, having building with the recordings library, can help others to enjoy, listen, and feel the music itself as a references.

Jescy
- In my opinion, there is a need to set up a Sarawak traditional music archive. This is because it give information to people when they need it. In my opinion, I will choose the online based. This is because it more convenient for people who need the information. Only need to click on the mouse.

4. Do you think music and dance as an intangible cultural heritage shall be preserved?

Abel
- In my opinion, yes it has to be preserved. This is because apart from being an entertainment, music and dance also symbolize our tradition. There are a lot of music and dance that are used in ceremony such as Sumanzau, Alu-alu, Sudawil and so on. Those kind of stuff are very important because it was one of the tradition that we inherited from the older generation. If we fail to preserve it, then we will lose our tradition.

Jannet
- The music and the dance should be preserve since it is a uniq identity of the Sarawakian culture and entertain the society in a good way. Moreover, preservation of the culture helps local businesses such as doing concert and events. Societies that take steps to preserve their culture attract visitors.

Sherlin
- I think music and dance should be preserved as intangible cultural heritage this is because it may lose its place as the traditional music and dance in Sarawak as we know that many influence from outside the country may affect its existence. The modern music genre and dance that is more fresh and more interesting may attract the new generation where it will cause the traditional music and dance be forgotten as if this trend is continued. So in order for this not to happenend, it should be preserved.

Hanan
- Yes it shall be preserved. Even if it's intangible because the music and dance in Sarawak is not only shown physically but it is part of the spiritual needs of the culture and ethnicities here. It shall be preserved because it is still used today in ceremonies and celebrations. Preserving this cultural heritage is a way of connecting with the past generations and holding onto our traditions despite the world growing into a more modern era.

Mawaddah
- Music and dance as an intangible cultural heritage shall be preserved. This is because every each country have their own identity to keep preserve and maintaining its origin or existing. The knowledge and traditions about the music and dance of Sarawak heritage culture can help community in Sarawak to raise the dignity of art that old generation has inherited.

Jescy
- I think music and dance as an intangible cultural heritage shall be preserved. This is because it relevant to a culture and be regularly practiced and should be learned within communities and between generations. We need to know the intangible cultural heritage of different communities with their intercultural dialogue and encourages mutual respect of other races.

5. What do you think is the best way to preserve our Sarawak heritage, especially in traditional music and dance. Discuss and proposed a suitable model.

Abel
- The best way to preserve our Sarawak heritage in traditional music and dance is from school itself. School is one of the place where children went to and learn a lot of stuff. So in order to preserve our traditionality, teachers has to expose them about some culture whether it is directly on indirectly. There are a lot of method that can be done. For an example to set up a traditional club. If they were exposed about traditional music and dance in their young age, they will have a lot of time to build their passion in those stuff.

Sherlin
-The best way to preserve our Sarawak heritage is by keep on practicing all the traditional music and dance. Give more knowledge to the younger generation and making an event about it annually. As it may not be easily forgotten if there is something to show them on how unique and interesting it can be. Other than keep practicing it, make documentation about it and keep it in archive or museum as it can be refer to anyone so that it may not be easily forgotten.

Hanan
- The best way to preserve our Sarawak Heritage is to practice and teach it from a young age. Not only teach the artistic side of it but also teach the importance of preserving it and why it is important to hold onto our culture and heritage. This education doesn't only come from family members but it can also be implemented in schools. Specifically in Sarawak. The ministry to have more efforts to uphold the traditions and culture here and implement this kind of subject in schools.

Mawaddah
- I think the best way to preserve our Sarawak heritage, especially in traditional music and dance is by old generation as a role model to young generations. Exposing Sarawak heritage started from the young age.

Jannet
- We can preserve our Sarawak heritage by host special events according to our Sarawak heritage. Special events encourage those interested in mid-century architecture to connect with like-minded people. These can include fundraising events; special exhibits that feature the architecture and modern heritage of your community; or a lecture series about cultural music and dance, or professors to speaking about the Sarawakian culture.

Jescy
- I think the best way to preserve our Sarawak heritage is we need to learn from an early age no matter it is dance or music. This is because now a day many new trends easily obscure the traditional dance and music.
