The Inflation is measured by using 3 different types of measurements. These are CPI (Consumer Price Inflation), CPIH (measure of owner occupiers' housing costs), (not currently a National Statistic)

and RPI (Retail Price Index).
To measure the increased inflation rate, you would need to obtain the CPI rate of that year example (2012, 93.2) and the CPI of the previous year (2011, 90.5) the calculations to work out the inflation rate would be as follows: 2012, 93.2 subtract 2011, 90.5 = 2.7%, then 2.7% divide by the earliest date CPI (90.5) x by 100 = 2.98% inflation.
Source, NOS, 2017 https://www.ons.gov.uk/

The standard increase of inflation is between 0% - 2%.

In June 2016, the UK voted to leave the EU. Since the vote to leave the EU our inflation rate has slowly increased.
https://www.ons.gov.uk/economy/inflationandpriceindices/bulletins/consumerpriceinflation/latest

October onwards:

“UK inflation fell back slightly in October to 0.9% - which was a surprise to market expectations of a further increase due to the weakness of sterling. Food prices fell compared with last month, and this offset rises elsewhere, including higher fuel prices. Though the pound has fallen very sharply, it is taking some time for this to feed through into prices in the shops and online.

“But this respite for consumers will be short-lived. In the months ahead and next year, we should still see a significant increase in inflation reflecting higher import costs for manufacturers and retailers. The latest PwC projections - published today - suggest that CPI inflation should be between 2.5 and 3% by the end of next year, much in line with the Bank of England's latest forecast

https://www.pwc.co.uk/who-we-are/regional-sites/yorkshire-north-east/press-releases/uk-inflation--october-2016---pwc-comments.html

More recently, the the inflation rate has increased dramatically, March 2017 it was at 2.3% and in April it was 2.6% which means the increase of 0.3% within a month.
https://www.ons.gov.uk/economy/inflationandpriceindices/bulletins/consumerpriceinflation/latest
