Hello, everyone, I was not at the orientation but I was able to watch the recordings; which was informative. The course coordinator and e-tutor were welcoming and made it easy to metamorphosis into the course. at the begining of each semester I look forward to meeting new productive people with a different outlook and from other cultures however; the birthday and book club established by the CC has made the experience exciting, it is good to know there is something along with the lounge. As I begin unit one of the reading material I am grateful to know that I have the full support of the MGMT 2063 team as I aim to contribute to my peer's post and give respectful feedback and get that A.

Hello, everyone. See my unit one reflections.
Starting off by defining the word research. Research in itself is not a strange word, however in layman terms we can define research several ways. In my opinion for a research to be conduction there as to be a goal / some findings/ expectation in mind. A research maybe conducted based on several list of interests.

My first job was in a supermarket (summer job) at that time Super plus supermarket owned and operated by the infamous Mr. Wayne Chen which failed a couple years after operations began. No question that this was one of Jamaica’s largest food chains. On my first day in the company I was taught a saying 1 customer chases a thousand. Customer’s services were key there. However now to look back after unit 1 in MGMT2063 did Mr. Chen team conducted their research, Did or did they not see the weak link?
That is just a random thought. 360-degree thinking (essentials of marketing research).
Moving forward from what I gathered from the unit, in a nut shell there are several types of research that can be conducted. This research varies from casual, explanatory and descriptive.
Technically, what I already knew about Ethical misconduct from my diploma and life experiences. It is crystal clear how ethical misconduct leads to a tainted reputation and create harm business/ personal to participants. Confidentiality is to ensure that participants remain anonymous. Participants place trust in researcher and when he/she agrees to divulge personal information to the interviewer, it is the duty of the researcher to protect that trust created in the contract (business law).
Since I started my degree a few courses I have ever been excited about and few courses made me say wow, oh that’s what I was taught in Law/ marketing. Finally, few lecturers made and impact and miss Mohammed thus far, I am elated to see the semester unfolds despites the challenges that may come

The research process
Good day everyone,
Firstly, My reflection this week starts off by defining research.

Research can be defined as investigation and writing based upon the idea of scientific inquiry/ in layman terms curiosity.

The scientific method is based on the assumption that everything in the universe is linked by
cause and reaction.
For example: stdents at uwi in each feild ill have to all do Foun1001, an English course which is important because being bilingual is needed in any area of study.
This initial assumption is called a
hypothesis. Researchers typically talk about a null hypothesis. A null hypothesis generally
asserts that there is no meaningful relationship between two observed phenomena.

this simplemeans that the H0 can be wrong and H1/Ha be accepted, as this is an experiment( I learned this is Econ1005, see this inter relates?

moving on to my next point.
The researcher then seeks to conduct research that will either prove or disprove the null
hypothesis. The researcher develops a methodology, or method of testing the null hypothesis.
Research is completed and the results are analyzed. Research may be qualitative or
quantitative. Quantitative meaning mathematical.

The main stages in the research process is
1-problem identification and development
2-hypothesis formulation
3-research design
4-measurement
5data analysis

A good business research is about collecting information you really need when you need it
....... Example upcoming paper Employee conflicts(topic choice).
understand
what scholarly research is so that they can know the difference between reliable and unreliable
findings is important to note.

Looking forward to unit 3 and the venture into my paper.

research is about telling a story. many different lines of study contribute to the research intention. there is no wrong or right way to turn your ideas into a coherent argument, in a literature review.Unit two examined the research process. I comprehended how research alleviates problems and provide a channel for innovation once carried out using the correct structure. The research process consists of six steps which can be returned to at any time during the research in general

The Oxford dictionary (2004) defines communication as the imparting or exchanging of information or news....................... I generally like talking or as in Jamaica "chatting" however I say this to say communication is a great tool. Communication makes life easier in organization and area of studies. I am currently working on my research paper and based on communication from the CC and E-tutor will also determine how well I perform, is the question properly executed and if not I can seek or clarification or guidance from either Miss Mohammed or Miss Parris.

In a proper research proposal, I have to be able to communicate my objectives properly and in the passive form.

Determining the general topic;
Performing a Literature review on the topic;
Identifying a gap in the literature;
Identifying a problem highlighted by the gap in the literature and framing a purpose for the study;
Writing an Introduction to the study;
Framing research hypotheses and or research questions to investigate or guide the study;
Determine the method of investigation
Outline the research design
Define the Sample size and the characteristics of the proposed sample;
Describe the procedures to follow for data collection and data analyses.

.........................................

This week focused on the research design. Today is also the deadline for drafts of the research proposal and each week another unit shed some light on the paper working on for the end of the semester research paper. well, knowledge gained this week was focused on quantitative and qualitative methods or mixed methods. Each individuals see the world through different lenses and this is called a paradigm. a paradigm is a set of beliefs. for my research paper, this semester takes on a subjective approach - practical humanism paradigm. Using grounded theory to investigate the underlying factors and values in the JUTC to create change in the issues affecting commuters in the KMA(Jamaica). I will be using unstructured interviews, focus groups etc.
Qualitative research strategies- try to understand behavioral patterns by getting to know the person involved in a situation and their feeling towards the issue. VERSUS Quantitative design...........................Objective refers to the elimination of subjective perspectives and a process that is purely based on hard facts, on the other hand, Subjective refers to personal perspectives, feelings, or opinions entering the decision-making .process.

As the weeks unfold and trying to keep a breath with the course assessments and research report schedule alongside other courses this semester; i must note that course thus far has been the most interesting course and each week I acquire skills needed to approach my research paper. Some information throughout the unit readings are new information and some are a refresher or additional information to what I already knew in certain areas while some information clears up any misconceptions I had. Firstly, Primary data is original data that the researcher collects for the study from own efforts with a particular purpose and specific objectives in mind, first-hand information from surveys or interviews etc. There advantages and disadvantages of primary data. secondary data is data that is not originally collected by the current researcher. Researchers can determine the value of data based on four criteria quality, relevance, timeliness, and completeness. Quality- the accuracy a data. Relevance- the pertinency of the data. timeliness- data must be provided at the right time.completeness- sufficient information.Data collection is the process of obtaining data on a research question. All research begins with secondary data, hence the researcher might need to collect primary data. In data collection, a researcher has o know when to qualitative methods in the collection of data versus quantitative research. Qualitative research will be concerned with narrative data while quantitative research will be concerned with the numerical data. Finally, a fieldworker carries out primary research.

The review week is over. I was grateful for the time off to complete group assignment, research proposal, and quiz. This course goes hand in hand with hard work and time management. throughout the week, several things that weren't clear to me like the importance of a literature review which is mainly primary data. I also learned that the abstract is written after the research, it summaries the body of work and does not need to be in a research proposal but rather the research report. throughout the week I felt overwhelmed with the emails, especially on my Sunday as it was a holiday weekend in Jamaica and I was trying to catch a breath. however, I am willing to work hard throughout the course as this is also preparing me for the harsh reality of work. success is rented and the rent is due daily. after completing my quiz I will give my other courses my attention as I have one course lagging behind.I have made contact with my debate partner and week 6 discussion is on my to-do list.

Jillian Pinnock

●

48yr

The group presntation was challenging as we had to collerberate as a team. we started the assignment early but my peer was working on her research proposal and I had to give her time to complete her proposal. my peer had a lot of catching up to do as she started the semester late due to a late family member I was sympathetic with her. The assignments, I managed to inform her of the updates etc. In the end, she managed to pulled through and we submitted on time. The week was overwhelming for me. The group presentation had two main sections which was preparation for fieldwork and findings. The researcher’s paper we were working on anx how the information was allocated. I used the knowledge gain from unit four about research design to complete the presentation. The question-and-answer forum of our presentation responding to other groups showed what I retained in this course and my weak areas. The presentation week also incorporated a quiz which I felt as if I failed as I saw a medical question (common sense) In general this course keeps me awake at nights, I feel overwhelmed but at the same time, it is molding me into the best version of me. Finally, I was having issues in week 4 with the forum to find out I was penalized for responding late etc and in this, i see why miss constant emails are relevant. (note this was not a forget to post a reply, this was school error on the portal and I email the help desk.

This week reading was essential to my research paper. as I was concerned about my questionnaire set up as questionnaires can have barriers. further, in my readings, I have learned that questionnaires may be interviewer-administered, where an interviewer records the responses of respondents on the questionnaire, or self-administered, where the respondent records his/her own responses on the questionnaire. In my research report design, I am using both methods. As the researcher, I am aware that several things can affect the respondent's responses like mood etc. as I have poorly done a questionnaire before because maybe on that day I just felt like not being bothered. It is important to construct the questionnaire so that it will allow for the collection of data that is both relevant and accurate. A properly designed questionnaire will allow the researcher to collect data that help the researcher to answer the Hypothesis and in doing so meet the objectives of the study versus a poor questionnaire will reflect poor data. Zikmund et al. (2009) advise that the researcher should be paying keen attention to how the question is asked and the sequence the questions are asked. I was aware of open and closed-ended questions, but I have learned that this can also be tricky in allocating data. I have learned that there are two types of errors interviewer error and respondent error. with this knowledge, I am now able to construct a questionnaire while minimizing errors and attempt my week 6 Graded discussion. warmings.

This unit is based on data preparation and presentation. I have learned that after completing data collection the researcher will need to make sense of the data collected and present solutions to the hypothesis. Data editing is the process of checking data for omissions, consistency, and legibility in preparation for coding. Coding refers to the assignment of a numerical score or a classifying symbol to edited data to group data into categories. A data dictionary is a collection of descriptions of the data objects or items in a database. It usually, serves as a key. Data entry is the process of inputting data gathered into a database for storing and analysis. I also learned that data cleaning is Similar to editing. Data modification is the alteration of the data or changing of data. Data can be displayed in frequency tables(numerical data). Bar charts are used to display number and frequency for discrete categories or groups. information can also be displayed in pie charts, histograms, line graph, scatter plotter and bar graphs. Finally, It is important that you understand the appropriate use of the display techniques to facilitate preliminary data analysis and for use in reports to be read by others.

Jillian Pinnock

●

48yr

This unit was on data analysis. Qualitative data analysis is “the non-numerical examination and interpretation of observations. apart of this process is noticing,collecting and thinking about the data. On the other hand Quantitative data analysis is the systematic analysis of numerical data collected or the analysis of data that is converted to numerical form. Quantitative data can be analysed using statistics, which is the collection, analysis and interpretation of numerical data. There are two types of statistics descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. while Inferential statistics is used to make inferences or draw conclusions about a population from a sample. as it would be impossible to study the entire population. therefore a sample is taken and then assumptions are made for the population on a whole. Descriptive data analysis can be done using univariate analysis and bivariate analysis. The week has a debate approaching for the rest i am in the process of collecting my data for my research on JUTC and in preparation for my debate. working for an A , not giving up. with he assistant of miss Mohammed and miss Parris.

Nerve wrecking and hectic week it was but the kind of hectic that I was appreciative of. When all said and done this course brought out the best in me, in a sense that I became more aware of how to approach misunderstandings and learn that in order to give your b est self, you cant see situations through your cultural lenses. Respecting others views and that we are all human and indeed make mistakes.

When I was to type this padlet, i wonder what to say as my debate week and presentation padlets, seemed to have summarized it all.

I have to say a warm thank you to Miss Natalia and Miss Mohnammed as they exercise patience with my 100 concerns throughout this course, I came to understand that the course might be stressful to me as a student but can only image how much other students constantly emails the CC and E-Tutor and they have to respond because 98% of the time my overseers were on the ball with their response. I am eternally grateful and would have it no other way as I can take life lessons from my mistakes in the course throughout life and the rest of my degree.

I am now preparing for my other exams and awaiting my grade from the report anxiously.

In closing Miss parris and Mohammed thank you.
warm regards
from a student
