My response is similar to Hugo's because I also believe that it is a meeting of some kind. Based on my observations, it could be a family meeting or a council. All three men are either holding a book or a scroll.

Based of my observations, I believe that this portrait takes place in the 1800's to the early 1900's because of the way they are dressed. The woman are wearing long, elegant gowns, and the men's hair could be a wig.

I agree with Kaviya that it takes place in the 1800's based on the clothing they are wearing. I found a website which shows women's clothing in different time periods.

I disagree with Hugo and Zoyah it looks like the meeting is centered around the guy on the right side based on how the historian is taking notes while looking at him and the women and one other man is.

I have observed that the meeting is apparently taking place outside if you look in the background there is trees and rocks and it looks like around 6 to 8 pm based on how the sun is setting.

I agree with Justin that it is taking place outside but it seems that they might be on a balcony or porch because there are three pillars you can see behind the men standing.

I agree that men's hair could be a wig. But, can women also wear a wig? What does everyone think?
